Govt's mission to build New India free from politics: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, his government's mission is to build a New India, which is free from politics of caste, communalism and corruption.

Flagging off the Run for New India Marathon in Surat, Gujarat this evening, Mr Modi said, Centre wants to create an India where every citizen is empowered.

He said, it is the best tribute to the great women and men who gave their lives for India's freedom.

Mr Modi said, no country is made by leaders or governments and it is the strength of the people that builds a nation.

The Run for New India Marathon was flagged off from Lalbhai Contractor Stadium of the city. It aims to create awareness about social causes.

Mr Modi said, such marathons augur well for the health of people. He appealed to people to embrace sports as it brings good health and furthers a spirit of teamwork.

Prime Minister urged the citizens of Surat to actively take part in this year's Yoga Day in June and the 'Run for Unity' in October.

He said, Surat is blessed with remarkable determination and it is a city which believes in harmony.

Earlier, addressing a public meeting organised by the BJP in Puducherry this afternoon, Mr Modi lashed out at the Congress saying that one family had ruled the country for over four decades and asked the people to compare the dynasty-led governments with the development-oriented NDA.

The Prime Minister said, intellectuals can debate the difference between what was achieved during the 48 years of Congress regimes and around 48 months of the BJP-led NDA rule.

Targeting the Congress government in Puducherry, Mr Modi said, the union territory had poor infrastructure and was a victim of Congress culture.

He asserted that the BJP will win the coming Assembly elections in Karnataka and other states, and said the Congress would be left in South India with only the V Narayanasamy government in Puducherry.
