PM Modi expresses strong disapproval over vandalism of statues

The Home Minister has appealed to political parties to ask their workers not to indulge in the vandalism of statues, saying prompt action should be taken against the culprits.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Mr. Singh said, vandalising statues of great men can never be justified.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has issued a second advisory to the States asking them to make District Magistrates and Senior Superintendents of Police personally responsible for ensuring that the law and order situation remains firmly under control in their jurisdiction.

The states have been advised to intensify patrolling in sensitive locations and community policing for peace and harmony.

BJP President Amit Shah has also warned of stern action against partymen found involved in destroying statues.

In a series of tweets, he said, BJP does not support the bringing down of any statue and will always remain committed to ideals of openness and constructive politics.
