Over 1 crore businesses registered under GST: Govt

Over one crore taxpayers have registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was rolled out from in July last year.

It has subsumed over a dozen local taxes, including excise duty, service tax and VAT.

Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said a total of around one crore four lakh taxpayers were registered under the GST as on 2nd March, 2018.

This includes over 64 lakh taxpayers who had migrated from the erstwhile tax regimes and around 40 lakh who had taken new registration.

The Minister gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.

Mr Shukla said, as a result of the sustained efforts made by the government to make GST trade-friendly, the implementation of GST in the country has been smooth so far.
