UN Security Council to meet on anti-Israel rocket attacks

The United Nations Security Council will meet today at the request of the United States to discuss the Palestinian rocket and mortar attacks on Israel. The US has circulated a draft statement calling on the Council to condemn in the strongest terms the indiscriminate firing of rockets by Palestinian militants in Gaza towards Israel.
The rocket attacks had wounded five Israelis. In response, the Israeli Air Force struck over targets in Gaza, also bombing a tunnel. A statement released by the US mission to the UN said, the Security Council should be outraged and respond to the violence directed at innocent Israeli civilians. It said, the Palestinian leadership needs to be held accountable for the violence.
