India and Indonesia are proud of their democratic ethos and their diversity: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, India and Indonesia are proud of their democratic ethos and their diversity. Addressing Indian community at Jakarta Convention Centre today, Mr Modi said that in 2014 people of India voted for a Government headed by a person belonging to a poor background. He said, similarly, the people of Indonesia elected President Joko Widodo whose background is also humble. Mr Modi said, Indian government is  making arrangements for free of cost visa for Indonesian citizens for travel of up to 30 days. 
The Prime Minister said, his government's  first priority is to make the country corruption free, citizen-centric and development friendly. He said, his government has gone a step ahead of ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and its focus is ‘Ease of Living.’ Mr Modi will also address India-Indonesia CEOs Forum along with the Indonesian President today. 
Earlier, India and Indonesia signed two agreements and seven MoUs in various sectors including defence, space and capacity building. Both countries decided to elevate the strategic partnership to a comprehensive strategic partnership. They also agreed to deepen their ties in defence, maritime security, Science and Technology, pharmaceuticals and other areas. In a joint statement after delegation level talks, Mr Modi and Indonesian President agreed to increase the bilateral trade to 50 billion dollars by 2025. 

Prime Minister Modi said his government proposes S A G A R meaning Security and Growth for All in the Region and it has similarities with "Maritime Fulcrum"proposed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo for ensuring security and peace in the region, particularly the Indo Pacific region. The Prime Minister said, India and Indonesia have more than two centuries-old bilateral links and both countries need to take forward this relationship to next level. Mr Modi said, 2019 marks the completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations between the both countries and several events are planned to mark the occasion. 
Emphasizing the need to increase tourism between both countries, Mr Modi said, sister Province Cooperation will be established between Bali province in Indonesia and Uttarakhand. Mr Modi expressed his condolences over the recent terrorist attacks in Indonesia and stressed that India stands with Indonesia in this difficult time. He said, collective action is required to stop terrorist activities across the world. Mr. Modi greeted Indonesians on the month of Ramazan. He also extended wishes on Indonesia hosting Asian Games in August this year. The Prime Minister said, both countries have more youth population and there is a need to extend them training in skill development in order to generate employment.
Speaking on the occasion, the Indonesian President called upon Indian industrialists to invest in Indonesia in the areas of infrastructure, sea ports, airports and pharmaceuticals. He said, there is a need to increase connectivity between the two countries. Both leaders also inaugurated a Kite festival.
 
Mr Modi reached Jakarta last evening on the first leg of his 3-nation visit to Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
