Indian embassy urges Indian nationals to take advantage of 3-months' amnesty window to legalise their status or leave UAE without prosecution

India's ambassador to UAE Navdeep Suri has urged the Indian nationals who are staying in UAE illegally or those who have stayed beyond their visa period to take advantage of this ‘amnesty window’ to either regularize their stay or better leave the country.

The UAE has announced that it will grant a three-month general amnesty, starting from 1st of August to 31st of October 2018 to foreign violators of the country’s residency laws. The violators will have the option to either rectify their legal status through paying nominal fees or leave the UAE voluntarily without prosecution.
In his interaction with the media in Dubai, the Indian Ambassador said that Embassy in touch with the concerned authorities in UAE to get detailed information about the scheme so that all Indian nationals who are in need of the scheme can be made aware of it and take advantage of it.
He further said that the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai will get in touch with various community association and leaders across all seven Emirates to spread the word around and help any Indian national who may need it.
In 2013, more than 60,000 illegal residents took advantage of the general visa amnesty, which ran for two months.
