US court blocks release of 3D-printed gun blueprints

A US federal district court has blocked the online release of blueprints for plastic guns that can be made with a 3D printer. A Federal judge in Seattle in the state of Washington issued a temporary restraining order yesterday.

The ruling cites a possibility of irreparable harm to the American public. Washington state Attorney General, Bob Ferguson told reporters that the ruling means a nationwide ban, and the online release of a digital file of 3D-printed guns will be a violation of federal law for the time being.

A Texas-based group was to publish the designs for 3D-printed guns today after reaching a court settlement with President Donald Trump's administration.

Washington and several other states had filed a lawsuit seeking to block the settlement.
