Cabinet approves 13 new Kendriya Vidyalayas

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved the proposal for opening of 13 new Kendriya Vidyalayas in seven States to impart quality education. 

The states are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana and Karnataka. 

The cabinet also approved the establishment of an additional Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Alot in Ratlam District of Madhya Pradesh. 

Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting in New Delhi today, Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh has a high percentage of SC and ST population and there is huge demand for establishing an additional Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in that district. 

The Cabinet also approved 15 thousand crore rupees for Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) as extra budget resources during the current financial year. 

This decision will benefit around one crore 50 lakh rural households eligible for incentive under the mission and also Gram Panchayats for Solid and Liquid Waste Management activities. 

Mr. Prasad said, the funds will be utilized to achieve and sustain Open Defecation Free status in the villages across the country. 

In another decision, Union Cabinet cleared the purchase of 51 per cent controlling stake in IDBI Bank by state-run Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).
 
Talking to media in New Delhi, Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan said that the Cabinet meeting approved the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill restoring original provisions of prevention of atrocities act.
