Mumbai court remands alleged member of Sanatan Sansthan

A Mumbai court has remanded an alleged member of Sanatan Sansthan, Vaibhav Raut and two others, Sudhanva Gondhalekar and Sharad Kalaskar to police custody till 18th of August.

Raut was arrested from Mumbai’s suburb of Nallasopara on Thursday. A cache of explosives, including at least 19 country-made bombs large quantity gunpowder and detonators were also recovered from his house.

The accused have been booked under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and various sections under the Indian Penal Code. Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has claimed that the raid on Raut’s house was conducted after receiving information about a possible terror attack being planned in Mumbai, Pune, Solapur and Satara. 

Sanjeev Punalekar, the lawyer of the accused persons, however told the court that the case is absolutely false and the three have been framed. The trio also alleged that they were assaulted by ATS officers.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Deepak Kesarkar said the arrests are a big breakthrough for the ATS. He said, a full-fledged investigation will reveal who the trio was working for and what damage did they intent to cause.
