Punjab Assembly today passed a resolution to take back the cases related to incident of sacrilege of religious books and incidents of Bargadi and Behbalkalan from CBI and constituting a Special Investigation Team to probe these cases.

The resolution was moved by Cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa with the consent of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, when he was giving his reply on discussion on the Justice Ranjit Singh report on incidents of sacrilege of religious books.

Captain Amarinder Singh assured the house that SIT will be formed and time bound investigation would be marked to book the culprits. He said that those responsible for the incidents would not be spared.

Earlier, the report was discussed in the House and members of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party demanded action against the former Chief Minister, then Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini and other police officers, which were held responsible for the incidents of firing on people protesting against the sacrilege of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. They had also demanded to take back inquiry from CBI earlier recommended by the Chief Minister.
