Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said the Republican Party of India would move the Supreme Court against a Bombay High Court’s ruling which asks to refrain from using the word “Dalit” officially and in the media.

The RPI chief said that this word is associated with many organizations such as Dalit Panthers and as a former member of this organization he does not find the use of this word derogatory.

He also added that it is his Ministry’s responsibility that Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 is not misused. He was speaking to Media at Nagpur Ravibhavan.
