Nepal: Om Prakash Mishra sworn-in as Chief Justice of Supreme Court

AIR
Justice Om Prakash Mishra has been sworn in as new Chief Justice of Nepal.

The President Vidya Devi Bhandari administered oath of office and secrecy to Justice Mishra in Kathmandu this evening. Earlier in the day, Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) unanimously endorsed his name for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Constitutional Council had recommended Justice Mishra's name for top judicial post of the country last month. He is the senior-most judge of Supreme Court after Justice Deepak Raj Joshee, whose name was rejected by the PHC on August 3.

Justice Mishra holds a master’s degree in Comparative Law from Delhi University. He joined judicial service in 1981 as a section officer and became Additional District Judge in 1985.

Justice Mishra was appointed as a justice of the Supreme Court in 2014.
