Director General of NSG Sudeep Lakhtakia presented the donation cheque to Home Minister Rajnath Singh at the latter's office in Delhi. The NSG Head informed the amount was raised through the contribution of NSG personnel who donated one day's salary.

The about 10,000-personnel strong National Security Guard is tasked to undertake counter-terror and counter-hijack operations and is the federal contingency force for such tasks. It was raised in 1984.
