At least 27 people were drowned after a river boat capsized in northern Democratic Republic Congo.

Provincial governor Alpha Belo-Ngwata told AFP news agency that they pulled 27 bodies from the Mongala river after the craft capsized overnight.

He said other bodies are still underwater and rescue teams are trying to recover them. In May, 50 people died in a similar accident on another river in the northwest of the country.
