NHRC issues notice to Ministry of Steel and Steel Authority of India Ltd over Bhilai incident

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has issued notices to the Ministry of Steel and the Chairman, Steel Authority of India Limited over several deaths in SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant.

Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the commission has sought a detailed report in the matter within four weeks including the steps taken for relief and rehabilitation to the aggrieved families.
 
The Commission has also asked the Steel Authority of India to ensure that such accident do not recur in future. According to media reports, twelve workers were killed and 14 others injured following a blast in a gas pipeline during a scheduled maintenance job at the Plant in Chhattisgarh.
