BJP has outrightly rejected Congress President Rahul Gandhi's allegations that CBI Director Alok Verma was sent on leave because he was about to start probe into the Rafale aircraft deal.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, party leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar accused Mr Gandhi of spreading lies over the deal saying there is no connection between Verma's episode with the Rafale deal.
He asserted that the government never interfered in the functioning of the CBI and people were expecting such action much before the way things were going on in the investigating agency.
Justifying the government's action, Mr Javadekar clarified that CBI Director has not been removed but sent on leave only.
Mr Javadekar also alleged that the Congress has become desperate as it could not get commission in the Rafale deal which it was trying to seal during UPA regime. He wondered Congress remarks on independence of the agency reminding its misuse against the political opponents during UPA rule.
Earlier addressing media, Rahul Gandhi said, the government's decision on the CBI director is illegal and alleged that it was done as the government panicked over the possibility of him investigating the Rafale deal.
