Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the investments made over the past four and a half years in the railways have focused on safety, passenger services and returns on investment.

The Minister said that in the last 65 years, every Railway budget was a political tool. But during the NDA regime, there has been a dramatic shift in improving the railway system befitting the present needs.

Speaking at the India Ideas Conclave 2018 in New Delhi on Saturday, Mr Goyal said, under the NDA government the functioning of the railways has undergone a sea change. Political interference has been done away with and the railway budget is now implemented to fulfil the assigned priorities.

Mr Goyal said, the emphasis is on achieving the growth as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
