EAM Sushma Sushma Swaraj reaches Qatar on first leg of her two-nation visit to West Asia

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Doha last evening in order to enhance  India's engagement with the Gulf region. She is scheduled to call on Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. 

The Minister will also hold delegation level talks with her counterpart Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Mrs Swaraj will also meet the  Indian Diaspora in Qatar. Qatar hosts about seven lakh Indians. 
Qatar is a reliable energy partner, supplying more than 50 percent of India's natural gas imports. India’s bilateral trade with Qatar in 2017-18 stood at 9.9 billion USD
In the second leg of her visit, Mrs Swaraj will travel to  Kuwait on the 30th of October 2018. She will meet Deputy Prime Minister and  Minister of  Foreign Affairs  Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Sabah.

Mrs Swaraj is also scheduled to call on Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and interact with the Indian community. 
Kuwait is home to around 10 lakh Indians.
