Many parts of north India report severe air quality today

PTI
Many parts of north India reported severe air quality today. Lucknow and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar’s capital Patna recorded severe air quality index (AQI) of over 400 in the morning. Delhi, Agra, Ghaziabad and Faridabad also had Air Quality Index in “very poor” category. According to Central Pollution Control Board, air quality index was recorded at 361 at noon in Delhi.

All construction activities involving excavation have been stopped in the national capital till Saturday. Under an aggressive ten day Clean Air Campaign, the Union Environment Ministry is monitoring the polluting activities to ensure quick action. Entry of trucks in Delhi has been banned till Saturday to curb pollution.

Talking to AIR News, Central Pollution Control Board Scientist V.K. Shukla said adverse meteorological conditions helped in worsening the air quality. Particulate matter or PM2.5 levels went up to severe-plus category considered to be the danger that can trigger health impacts on people.
