Last phase of Assembly Elections ends peacefully in Chhattisgarh with 72% voter turn out

In Chhattisgarh, the two-phase polling process for the Assembly elections has come to an end with 71.93 per cent voter turn out in 72 constituencies in the second phase yesterday. 

Our correspondent reports that electoral fates of total 1269 candidates, including 133 women, were sealed in the electronic voting machines. 

Meanwhile, scrutiny of nominations took place in Rajasthan and Telangana for the Assembly polls yesterday. Thursday is the last day for withdrawal of nominations. 

613 nominations have been rejected after scrutiny in Rajasthan. Candidates have now started campaigning in the state. 


Railway Minister Piyush Goyal yesterday campaigned in Jaipur while former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot addressed a public meeting in Jodhpur district and Congress leader Sachin Pilot campaigned in Tonk district.


In Madhya Pradesh, electioneering now reached a feverish pitch as leaders of various political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters. 


Meanwhile, the full bench of Election Commission consisting Chief Election Commissioner O.P. Rawat, Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa yesterday reviewed the poll preparations of the state through video conferencing in New Delhi. 


The polling to the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly will be held in a single phase on the 28th of this month.
