In Mizoram, chief of Mizo National Front (MNF) Zoramthanga is likely to become the next chief minister after the newly elected legislators of the party elected him as leader of the legislature party last evening.  MNF secured 26 seats in the 40 seat assembly in the recently held elections.

As per the poll results declared yesterday, ruling Congress has been reduced to 5 seats. Our correspondent reports preparations are underway in full swing in the MNF for the formation of new government and swearing-in ceremony.

"Sources inside MNF said Zoramthanga is most likely to swear in as the chief minister by Saturday. Towards that all arrangements are being taken at present. Yesterday, hours after gaining the sweeping victory, 3 MNF leaders led by Zoramthanga met the Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan and staked claim to form the government.

Official sources said the Governor informed them he was yet to receive official communication of results from the election commission. However, he expressed hope he could invite MNF to form the government by this afternoon.
