Cold wave continues to sweep North India

The cold wave is continuously sweeping North India and fog is disrupting normal life at various places. Cold conditions are prevailing in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. 

The national capital recorded its coldest December temperature yesterday in the past 12 years with the mercury dipping to 3.7 degrees Celsius, as a moderate cover of fog surrounded the city affecting visibility. 

There was still no respite from chilly weather conditions in the Kashmir valley. All water bodies, including ponds, were frozen in Ladakh shivered at minus 17.3 degrees. 

Dense to very dense fog observed at isolated places over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. It also disturbed the vehicular traffic and people normal life. Thick fog engulfed Phagwara in Punjab paralysing normal life. 

The visibility was reported to be less than 50 meters. Road and railway services were affected due to the fog. Rain or thundershowers have occurred at a few places in Tamil Nadu and  Andaman and Nicobar islands and at isolated places in Kerala.
