Mann Ki Baat: PM describes 2018 as important year in country's development process

He said achievements, such as electricity reaching every village in the country, successfully accomplishment of the nuclear triad and launching of world’s biggest health insurance scheme ‘Ayushman Bharat swell the hearts of citizens with pride. Sharing his thoughts through Mann Ki Baat programme of All India Radio today, Mr Modi said, noted global institutions have accepted that India has taken strides in the area of poverty alleviation at a record pace. Mr Modi stated that sanitation coverage is rapidly advancing towards crossing the 95 per cent mark due to unwavering resolve of the countrymen.
The Prime Minister said the country has seen unprecedented improvement in the ‘Ease of doing business’ rankings because of collective efforts. The country’s self defence mechanism got further reinforced. Explaining the Nuclear Triad, Mr Modi said it means India is now armed with nuclear capabilities, in water, on land and in the sky as well. He expressed happiness that the country's daughters have made it proud by circumnavigating the globe through the Navika Sagar Parikrama. Mr Modi said foundation of a new revolution in the waterways sector has been laid with the launch of India’s first inland waterway in Varanasi.
He also mentioned the opening of the longest rail-road bridge -- Bogibeel Bridge in Assam, and commencement of flight operations at Pakyong, Sikkim’s first and India’s hundredth airport. Mr Modi said, India ed a thumping win in the under- 19 Cricket World Cup and the Blind Cricket World Cup. This time, India clinched a large number of medals in the Asian Games. Mr Modi hoped that India’s journey on the path of advancement and progress continues through next year to taking it to newer heights.
Speaking on Kumbh Mela to be held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh from the 15th of next month, the Prime Minister said, the festival is expected to see a footfall from more than 150 countries. He said, the divinity emanating from Kumbh will spread the colours of India's splendour throughout the world. He said Kumbh has bloomed and flourished as part of India's great cultural heritage.
The Prime Minister informed that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will be the chief guest on the Republic Day next year. He said Mahatma Gandhi and South Africa shared an unbreakable bond and it was South Africa, where Bapu transformed into the Mahatma.
Mr Modi conveyed his greetings to people on upcoming festivals -- Lohri, Pongal, Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, Magh Bihu and Maaghi among others. He said, these festivals are replete with fragrance of the essence of Unity in Diversity and the spirit of One India Great India.
