US Shutdown: No breakthrough as talks go into a second day over Mexico wall

NSD Logo
In the United States, talks aimed at ending a partial government shutdown over President Donald Trump's demands for border wall funding ended without a breakthrough yesterday.

White House officials and congressional aides have however planned to return to the table today.

The White House said funding was not discussed in-depth, but the administration was clear they needed funding for a wall and that they wanted to resolve the shutdown all at once.

The shutdown, now in its third week, has affected around eight lakh federal workers who have been without pay since 22 December.

The Democrats, who control the House of Representatives have refused to sanction the 5.6 billion dollars for Trump's ambitious border wall.
