The Lok Sabha today took up the Motion of Thanks to President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament for discussion.

Moving the motion in the House, Hukumdev Narayan Yadav of BJP said, the Narendra Modi government has implemented various welfare schemes for the upliftment of poor people in the country.

He said, under Jan-Dhan Yojana, so far 34 crore accounts have been opened in which the people have deposited 84 thousand crore rupees. Mr. Yadav said in the budget, the government has announced to provide six thousand rupees annually to small farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi.

He said, under Ayushman Bharat scheme, so far ten lakh people have availed benefits. He said, the next Lok Sabha elections will be the fight between the poor and the rich. Jagdambika Pal of BJP seconded the motion saying that the NDA government has taken several measures for the welfare of farmers and the poor.

Initiating the discussion, Bhartruhari Mahtab of BJD demanded fixing of MSP of farmers’ produce. He however welcomed the budget announcement of providing six thousand rupees annually to small farmers and pointed out that such step is not a permanent solution for farm distress.

He said the amount given for the Ayushman Bharat scheme is very less as only ten thousand crore rupees have been provided for the scheme which aims at providing insurance cover to  50 crore people.

P Venugopal of AIADMK demanded the government to release the arrears of GST compensation to Tamil Nadu. Dharmendra Yadav of Samajwadi Party alleged that NDA government has violated Constitution many times during its rule. He demanded reintroduction of 200-point roster in recruitment of teachers in Universities.

He also demanded Caste census in the country.  Madhukar Kukde of NCP, Rattan Lal Kataria and Ganesh Singh of BJP also participated in the discussion.

Earlier, when the discussion was underway, TMC members staged a walkout over CBI action in the West Bengal. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge objected that he was not called by the chair to speak on the motion.

Responding to it, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said, when Mr. Kharge’s name was called, he was not in the house and that is why she called the next speaker. Protesting it, the Congress members staged a walkout.

In the post-lunch session, the Lok Sabha witnessed two brief adjournments amidst continued protest by TMC on CBI issue and Congress on Rafale aircraft deal.

Earlier in the morning, minutes after the House met for the day, TMC-led Opposition created uproar over CBI action forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till noon. When the House reassembled, the members from TMC, TDP, SP and other parties continued their protest over the CBI issue.

Congress members were also in the well demanding JPC probe into Rafale aircraft deal. Amidst pandemonium, the Speaker adjourned the House till 2 PM.
