Parliamentary panel asks Twitter to engage more with EC

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology has asked Twitter to engage more with the Election Commission ahead of the General elections and address issues on a real-time basis. 

The Committee held a meeting with Global Vice President of Public Policy for Twitter and other officials of the micro-blogging platform in New Delhi on Monday.

Sources said, during the meeting, the Twitter was asked to ensure that the elections are not undermined and influenced by foreign entities.

In a tweet, Chairman of the Committee, Anurag Thakur said, the panel has also summoned senior officials of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp on the 6th of next month on the issue of safeguarding citizens' rights on social news media platforms.
