Maldives President Solih says his govt coalition remains intact

@MDPSecretariat
Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that his government coalition remains intact. His comments came as his Maldives Democratic Party swept the elections with three- fourth majority.

MDP has secured 66 out of 87 Parliament seats in the preliminary results declared so far. The opposition led by former President Abdulla Yameen could get only 8 seats.

President Solih said in a message that he hasn’t forgotten the hard work by coalition partners to bring the country back from the brink of President Yameen’s disastrous rule.

He said they will continue to work with the leaders of all coalition partners to ensure they deliver on our pledges to the people. One of the coalition parties in government Jumhooree Party had developed an understanding with opposition to deny MDP a majority and cast doubts over government stability.

Elections were held on Saturday with the participation of over 78 per cent voters and counting was held last night.
