FILE PIC: PTI
Punjab Cabinet, which met at Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today approved the creation of 994 posts for the upcoming Government Medical College at Mohali. The posts include teaching faculty, para-medical staff & Multi Task Workers for the Medical College with an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats.

The decision would pave the way for commencement of academic session at the college from 2020-21. The creation of the posts was in conformity with the minimum requirements laid down by the Medical Council of India for ‘100 MBBS seats’.

Disclosing this, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that a proposal for 168 posts of Medical Teaching Faculty, 426 posts of Para-Medics and 400 posts of Class 4 staff was earlier cleared by the Officers Committee headed by the Chief Secretary, as well as by the Finance Department. The posts would be filled up in a phased manner over a period of five years.

The creation of these new posts would entail an additional financial burden of 25 crore rupees in the first year, which would subsequently go up to Rs. 41 crore in the fifth year. Notably Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today skipped the cabinet meeting.
