Foreign leaders condole the demise of former EAM Sushma Swaraj

Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has condoled the death of the former External Affairs Minister. In a tweet, he said, deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Sushma Swaraj - a tall leader, a great orator and people's person.

Ambassador of France to India, Alexandre Ziegler, lauded Sushma Swaraj, for her contribution in strengthening Indo-French ties.

Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of Maldives, grieved the demise of Sushma Swaraj and described her as a "Stateswoman extraordinaire, diplomat par excellence and a warm human being". He termed her as Key architect of renewed Maldives-India friendship. 

Former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said, throughout her long and inspired service to the Indian people, she brought wit, warmth and strength in her many distinguished roles.

President of UN General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés today paid her tributes to former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who breathed her last yesternight.

She tweeted that she was an extraordinary woman and leader who devoted her life to public service. I had the honor of meeting her in my visits to India and will always remember her fondly, she said.

The Indian diaspora condoled the demise of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and remembered her as a "caring" and "remarkable" leader. Swaraj, as External Affairs Minister, brought a sense of assertiveness in India's diplomacy and was known for her prompt response on Twitter to address grievances of overseas Indians. 

Padma Shri recipient Subhash Kak, a Regents Professor Emeritus at the Oklahoma State University, called Mrs Swaraj a lady of great grace and ability. The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston's, founding secretary Jagdip Ahluwalia recalled Sushma Swaraj's efforts to get relief for 200 Indian students who were stranded at the University of Houston in floods triggered by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. 

He said, it was commendable to see her involvement in rescuing them. President of the Sewa Houston Chapter Gitesh Desai said, with the passing of Sushma ji, India has lost one of her greatest leaders who was able and capable to build bridges with the outside world.
