Centre announces further assistance of 4,400 crore rupees to Odisha, Karnataka and HP

The Centre has approved additional assistance of more than 4,400 crore rupees to Odisha, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. These states were affected by drought, avalanches, hailstorms, landslides and cyclone Fani. 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting of High-Level Committee, HLC, in New Delhi and gave approval to the Central assistance for the affected States. Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman along with Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Narendra Singh Tomar were present in the meeting. 

The HLC also reviewed the ongoing flood situation in many parts of the country. The Home Minister directed senior officers to take every possible measure to deal with the situation arising out of South-West Monsoon and extend all necessary assistance to flood-affected states. 

The HLC also reviewed the existing practice of deputing an Inter-Ministerial Central Team, IMCT, after the receipt of Memorandum from the State in the wake of any severe calamity. In a significant decision taken by the Home Minister, IMCT will henceforth be constituted immediately in the aftermath of any natural calamity of severe nature. The IMCT will visit affected areas in the State so as to have a first-hand assessment of damages caused and relief work carried out by the administration. The Ministry of Home Affairs will immediately constitute and depute IMCTs to Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Bihar, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala affected by recent floods.
