Doha: US, Taliban resume talks to allow Washington to drawdown militarily in Afghanistan

AIR
The US and the Taliban met in Doha today, resuming potentially decisive talks to allow Washington to drawdown militarily in Afghanistan.

AFP news agency quotes a US source as saying that the second day of the ninth round of dialogue had been due to begin on Friday but both sides decided to postpone it until today.

The Taliban's Doha spokesman, Suhail Shaheen, referring to discussions that took place on Thursday, said that they have made progress and are now discussing the implementation mechanism and some technical points. He said the agreement will be completed after they agree on these points.

Suhail Shaheen said any deal would be announced before the media as well as representatives from neighbouring countries as well as China, Russia, and the United Nations.
