Fin min asks ministries to give detailed capital expenditure plans

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today asked all ministries to give detailed capital expenditure plans for the next four quarters as the government looks to boost growth with spending push.

Briefing media after holding a meeting with Secretaries and Financial Advisers of key Ministries in New Delhi, Ms Sitharaman said, the idea is to ensure there are no dues pending for service providers.

She said the ministries have cleared most of the dues of goods and services to suppliers, mostly MSMEs and the remaining payments will be done in the next few days.

The Finance Minister stressed that even the little pending payments should be cleared quickly. She added that the government's capital expenditure is on track and Budget estimates would be met.

The Minister informed that she will hold a separate meeting with different agencies of public sector undertakings and other agencies which come under different ministries.

Expenditure Secretary G C Murmu said that out the total outstanding dues of about 60,000 crore rupees, 40 thousand crore rupees have been cleared. He said, the Department of Expenditure would constantly monitor the progress of large infrastructure projects for the Ministries as well as the Central Public Sector Enterprises.
