The Cabinet has approved establishment of a 'Special Window' to provide priority debt financing for completion of stalled housing projects in the Affordable and Middle-Income Housing sector.

Briefing media after the Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said a Fund has been set up to rescue stalled realty projects.

The government shall act as the sponsor of the Fund and infuse up to 10,000 crore rupees. The Fund will provide relief to developers with unfinished projects and ensure delivery of homes to buyers. Ms Sitharaman said a total of 4.58 lakh housing units are stuck and around 1600 projects are stalled.
