CM Yogi Adityanath addresses pro-CAA rally in Gorakhpur

Tweeted by AIR
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has accused opposition parties of spreading rumours about the Citizenship Amendment Act. Addressing a pro-CAA rally organized by the BJP in Gorakhpur, Mr. Adityanath said that the Act is to give citizenship to the persecuted minorities of the neighbouring countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and not to take away anyone's citizenship.

Asserting that the Act is not against any Indian citizen but is against those who entered the Indian territory illegally and are involved in anti-social and anti-national activities.

Chief Minister said that it is the responsibility of every Indian citizen, especially the youth, to tell people the real facts about the CAA. He also urged the BJP’s cadre to go door-to-door and inform the citizens about the facts regarding the amended Act.

The Chief Minister in his address held Congress responsible for the sufferings of the persecuted minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. He said that the Congress failed to correct its blunder in 1950 and 1955 when the Citizenship Act was drafted by not allowing the persecuted minorities the Indian citizenship. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now corrected that blunder through the Citizenship Amendment Act. He also said the opposition parties are trying to malign the image of New India, which is growing under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

BJP's newly appointed State President Swatantra Dev Singh also addressed the gathering. He said that the CAA is an expression of Indianness,  'Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas' and ‘Ek Bharat-Shrestha Bharat’.

The rally was part of the BJP’s campaign across the state to make people aware of the facts regarding CAA.
