"My Life is my message"

My Life is my message
As the nation observes the anniversary of martyrdom of the father of the nation, his message of truth, peace and non-violence reverberates across the world. The Swiss city of Geneva has a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the United Nations building. This statue of Mahatma Gandhi is a gift from the Government of India to the city of Geneva. It was unveiled on the 14th November 2007 at Ariana Park near the Palais des Nations. The 600 kg weighing bronze statue has been designed by the sculptor Gautam Pal, who was flown in from Kolkata for the unveiling ceremony. The black statue shows Mahatma sitting and reading a book in a contemplative and meditating mood. The inscriptions on the pedestal tell his story - My Life is my message. Incidentally the location has been named as the Avenue of Peace. The presence of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in this city is a reflection of the role of the Swiss city of Geneva in promoting peace, harmony and friendship, values closely associated with Gandhi.India's Ambassador and Permanent Representative at the UN Offices in Geneva, Dilip Sinha told AIR that the gift also marks the starting point of the activities celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity of August 14, 1948 between India and Switzerland. The emergence of friendship between India and Switzerland formally started with the Treaty of Friendship and Establishment of 1948 and was strengthened in various fields such as development, economy, and culture. The exchanges between the two countries have since then increased.
