Centre approves Tamil Nadu Govt’s proposal to extend tenure of State Chief Secretary K Shanmugham by 3- months

In the wake of the COVID-19 situation, the Centre has approved the Tamil Nadu Government’s proposal to extend the tenure of the State Chief Secretary K Shanmugham by three months.

He was about to retire next month. An order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions  said, he will continue as the Chief Secretary till the end of October.

Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the total number of COVID-19 infected cases has surged past the 25-thousand mark with 1,286 people testing positive on a single day today.

Chennai alone has reported 1,012 cases today taking the total to 17,598 in the city, whereas the state tally is 25,872.

From hospitals, 610 patients were discharged today while eleven others died of the disease, mounting the fatalities to 208.

The State Government is making arrangements for the Tenth Standard public examinations.

AIR correspondent reports, the State School Education Department is making all out efforts to conduct the deferred Tenth Standard public examinations this month.

In a circular, the department has said in a classroom, only ten students should be seated for them to write the examinations.

Irrespective of the student strength in the Tenth Standard, all schools outside containment zones where they have studied have been made the examination centres to minimize travel and to ensure social distancing.

In all, 9.79 lakh students are going to appear for the examinations from the middle of this month in 12,690 centres.

Normally, students from schools with lower strength used to be accommodated in nearby bigger schools.

For the Eleventh Standard, the public examinations are due for a couple of subjects only, which will also be conducted in the respective schools of the students.

The government is planning to distribute reusable masks for all the students and the staff on duty freely as a safety measure.

Hand sanitizers and thermal screening facilities have been mandated in all the exam centres.
