Gujarat: Heavy rain, release of water from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam & other reservoirs create flood like situation in downstream

In Gujarat, heavy rain and releasing of water from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam and other reservoirs has created flood like situation in the downstream.

According to sources, low lying villages in Bharuch and Narmada districts have been warned. AIR correspondent reports that water level of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam has reached at 137 meters record level. Following the inflow of 8 lakh cusecs of water in the dam, authority is releasing the same amount of water to maintain the water level. People staying in the downstream of Narmada River have been shifted to the safer places. Water release from Narmada dam is also being flown to other rivers like Sabarmati, Rupen and Banas. Meanwhile, local weather office has issued a heavy rain warning for south and central Gujarat for next 24 hours.
