Indian Coast Guard to participate in ‘India Thanks COVID-19 Warriors’ initiative

The Indian Coast Guard - ICG will  actively take  part in the ‘India Thanks COVID-19 Warriors’ initiative tomorrow. It will illuminate ships and showering petals at hospitals treating Corona patients. 

The efforts of the COVID-19 Warriors will be appreciated by illuminating the ships at 25 locations covering the entire coastline of the country including the remote sites and far flung island territories of Andaman and  Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep and Minicoy islands. 

Ministry of Defence in a statement said that in addition, ICG helicopters will also shower petals on COVID-19 hospitals at five locations including Mumbai, Goa and Chennai. A total of 46 ICG ships and around 10 helicopters will take part in the initiative.

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is also undertaking additional community interaction programmes about the precautions to be adopted to educate mariners, especially fishermen community, ports and other agencies about preventing spread of COVID-19.

According to a press communique today, a host of events will be organised by units under Eastern Naval Command to pay tributes to all Corona Warriors including Doctors, Nurses, other health workers, hygiene and sanitation staff, police personnel and media personnel who have been risking their lives and relentlessly fighting the COVID and containing the spread of the pandemic.

On Sunday morning, Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh) will be visiting Govt. TB and Chest Hospital and GITAM Hospital which are the designated COVID hospitals at Visakhapatnam and felicitate the Medical fraternity for their efforts.  This will be followed by a naval helicopter from INS Dega showering flower petals on the hospitals treating COVID patients at Visakhapatnam.

Two IN ships will also be at Anchorage off RK Beach and illuminating from 7:30 pm to midnight on Sunday at Visakhapatnam. They will also salute the Corona warriors through traditional Naval ceremonials. Two ships of ENC will be at anchorage off the Marina Beach at Chennai  to honour and salute these Corona Warriors by illuminating and traditional Naval ceremonials. In addition to illumination, the ships will also be firing Green flares signifying our good wishes for the health of our citizens.
