Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, the NDAgovernment has taken several steps for the benefit of farmers and soldiers.Addressing a kisan kalyan rally at Muktsar district in Punjab today, Mr Modisaid, the NDA government is trying to restore respect to farmers and soldiersthrough various schemes. He reiterated his commitment to double farmers' incomeby 2022. He stated that efforts are being made in this direction for the pastfour years.

The Prime Minister spoke about the increase inMinimum Support Price (MSP) for kharif crops, efforts taken to improve soilhealth, neem coating of urea and ensuring better markets for farmers.

"आपका धान हो, कपास हो समर्थन मूल् में दो सौ रुपये से लेकर के 18 सौ रुपये तक की वृद्धि की गई है और कई फसलों में तो लगभग लागत का 100 प्रतिशत यानी दोगुना मूल् मिलना तय किया है।"

Mr Modi also thanked the farmers for filling thegranaries with record production in the past four years.

"बीते चार वर्षों में जिस प्रकार आप देश के अन् भंडारों को रिकॉर्ड पैदावर से भर रहे हैं, उसके लिए मैं, मेरे देश के किसानों को, आप सब को सिर झुका कर नमन करता हूं। गेहूं हो, धान हो, चीनी हो, कपास हो, या फिर दालें हों, उत्पादने पिछले सारे रिकॉर्ड टूट रहे हैं।"

The Prime Minister said that be it ensuring foodsecurity or defending the borders, Punjab has always inspired the country. Hesaid the NDA government fulfilled the promise of One Rank One Pension, OROP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will directly interactwith the members of Self Help Groups through video conferencing at 9:30tomorrow morning. The groups, which will take part in the interaction, areunder the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission(DAY-NRLM), Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana and Rural SelfEmployment Training Institutes. The interaction will be available onDoordarshan and NIC webcast.

DAY-NRLM is one of the flagship programmes of theRural Development Ministry to alleviate rural poverty. It has emerged as thelargest institutional platform for women’s empowerment. The Mission has nowinitiated implementation in 4884 blocks spread across 600 districts in 29States and 5 Union Territories.

In an exclusive interview to Prasar Bharati, RuralDevelopment Secretary Amarjeet Sinha said, the Deendayal AntyodayaYojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission has led to economic empowerment ofthe women particularly in the rural areas. He said, five crore  twenty eight lakhs women are associated withthe mission through self help groups. Mr Sinha said, Government is providingthem loans and in the last four years 1.6 lakh crore rupees was sanctioned forthe self help groups and in the last year it was 70 thousand crore rupees. Hesaid, the joining of the women in the mission is bringing a big change in thesociety.

"सबसे महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दा महिलाओं के सशक्तिकरण का है, आज 5 करोड़ 28 लाख महिलाएं हैं, जो हमारे स्वं-सहायता समूहों से दीनदयाल अन्त्योदय योजना राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण आजीविका मिशन से जुड़ी है। सरकार के सहयोग से नई प्रबंधन से, नई व्यवस्थाओं से, आजीविकाओं के विस्तार और विकास में जुड़ती है। केवल राशि लेती ही नहीं है बैंकों से, आर्थिक स्थिति में सुधार भी करती है, पैसों को वापिस भी करती है"             


Minister forCommerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu has said that India is on track to be aneconomy of 5 trillion dollars in next few years and 10 trillion dollars inabout 16 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Reacting to thed World Bank figures for 2017 which said that India has become theworld's sixth-biggest economy, Mr Prabhu said, its a result of many structural,sectoral, socio-economic reforms. He said, people will see more outcomes in thenear future.

India jumped to thesixth place edging past France in gross domestic product terms. India’s GDPtouched 2.597 trillion dollars in 2017 while France’s GDP was at 2.582 trillionin the same period. The US is the world's top economy, followed by China,Japan, Germany and UK.


The CBI today charge sheeted Uttar Pradesh BJP MLAKuldeep Singh Sengar for the alleged rape of a minor girl in Unnao at hisresidence on the 4th of June last year.

In the charge sheet filed in a special CBI court inLucknow, Sengar and his associate Sashi Singh have been charged with criminalconspiracy and other offences under IPC, and the Protection of Children fromSexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) which relates to rape of minors. Both theaccused are under judicial custody. Sengar, a four-time MLA who representsBangermau in UP legislative assembly, was arrested on the 13th of April.

The charge sheet has been filed three months afterthe CBI was handed over the probe in the alleged rape of the girl who was luredto the residence of the politician with the promise of a job.


The Centre today left it to the wisdom of theSupreme Court to examine the constitutional validity of Section 377 of the IPCcriminalizing homosexuality. 

In an affidavit, the Ministry of Home Affairs saidif the apex court decided to examine any question other than the constitutionalvalidity of this Section, it would have far-reaching and wide ramificationsunder various other laws.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by ChiefJustice Dipak Misra, is hearing a batch of petitions challenging its 2013verdict that had re-criminalised homosexuality. The apex court had yesterdaycommenced the crucial hearing on the petitions seeking decriminalisation ofhomosexuality.


In Manipur, nine people were killed in a landslidein Tamenglong District in the wee hours today. Five persons are from New SalemVillage and two each from New Canaan and Naigailong villages. Police said,several houses collapsed due to the landslide triggered by heavy rain. Someothers were also got injured in the unfortunate incident.

"Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh hasnot only announced ex-gratia of five lakh rupees each for the nine landslidevictims but also instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong to provideimmediate assistance to the families of the victims and monitor the situationminutely. Tamenglong District Administration has opened a Relief Control Roomto respond to the grievances of the local residents affected by the landslide.Manipur Police along with Assam Rifles and other paramilitary forces havejointly evacuated the people of the affected area to safe locations. After four consecutive days of continuous downpour,rain has taken a break bringing a sigh relief for the Mumbaikars. While railservices on central and harbour routes are running normally, long distancetrains of Western Railway still remain affected.

"The local train services between Vasai andVirar have resumed and suburban trains on all three lines are running normally.Vehicular traffic is also moving smoothly. In the afternoon, Mumbai’s GuardianMinister Vinod Tawde held a review meeting with Mumbai’s civic chief Ajoy Mehtaand other officers of BMC's Disaster Management Cell. Addressing the media afterthe meeting, Mr. Tawde said extremely high rainfall coupled with high tide madeit difficult to clear the road. In Uttarakhand, road connectivity in remote areashas been disrupted due to heavy rain in some parts of the state. In many partsof the Garhwal region, the connectivity of many villages from headquarters hasbeen affected due to rain. Communication and electricity supply has also beendisrupted in some areas.


Health Minister J P Nadda today said, thegovernment is addressing the issue of population stabilization in the countrywithin the life cycle framework. The Framework ensures that the health and wellbeing of the mother and child,carrying in the adolescent stage and further is taken care of.

Mr Nadda stated this while inaugurating theworkshop with the theme ‘Population stabilization: A right and Responsibility”on the occasion of World Population Day in New Delhi. The Minister said, the TotalFertility Rate- TFR rate has come down from 2.9 in 2015 to to 2.2 in 2018.


The Municipal Corporation of Kargil is working on amission mode to accomplish the Central Government's mission of providinghousing for all under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The scheme aims toprovide pucca houses to all by 2022 when the country celebrates the 75th yearof its Independence.

"People falling below the poverty lineor in low-income group have been benefitted a lot from Pradhan Mantri AwasYojna, (Urban), scheme in Kargil town. We have talked to a beneficiary HajiMohammad Hussain from Kako Shilikchey who has received the first installment.

In Afghanistan, the death toll in a terror attackin eastern city of Jalalabad has risen to eleven. An official said, another 10people were also injured in today's attack on an education department compoundin the city. At least two attackers were involved in the raid and both werekilled. There is no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.


In Football, England will battleit out against Croatia in the second semi-final of the FIFA World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscowtonight. The match will kick off at 11:30 pm.England will be eying to reach theFinal of the World Cup for the first time since 1966, when they had lifted thetrophy on their home soil. Croatia, on the other hand, have never made it tothe Final. Their previous best performance was in 1998 when they reached thesemi-finals.The winner of tonight's game will play France in the Final slatedfor Sunday.


In tennis, anintense round of four Men’s singles quarterfinals is in store on the 9th day ofWimbledon in London today. Novak Djokovic of Serbia advanced to the semi-finalbeating Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarters . 


The match betweenNo. 1 seed Roger Federer of Switzerland and  No. 8 seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa is underway in a bid to reachthe semis.
