  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi says use of biofuel can bring revolutionary changes in the lives of farmers; announces setting up of 12 modern biofuel refineries worth ten thousand crore rupees.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that 12 modern biofuel refineries worth ten thousand crore rupees will be established across the country. This will provide employment to 1.5 lakh youth. He was addressing an event on the occasion of World Biofuel Day 2018 in New Delhi. 

"देश भर में 10 हजार करोड़ रूपये की लागत से 12 आधुनिक रिफाइनरी बनाने की योजना है। एक रिफाइनरी से लगभग हजार, पन्द्रह सौ लोगों को रोजगार मिलने की संभावना है। यानि रिफाइनरी के संचालन से लेकर सप्लाई चेन तक लगभग डेढ़ लाख नौजवानों को नये रोजगार के अवसर उपलब् होंगे।"

Mr Modi said that biofuel can bring revolutionary changes in the lives of farmers and the government is making huge investment towards converting biomass into biofuel. He said, biofuel will act as the bridge between environment and  economic development. The Prime Minister said, the government is targeting ten per cent ethanol blending in petrol by 2022 and 20 per cent by 2030. He said, record production of ethanol has happened in the last four years.

The Prime Minister also said that the government is trying to reduce dependence on CNG import and soon it will promote CNG vehicles in the villages. He said, the Centre is also working to make BioCNG from farm waste.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister launched web portal PARIVESH, a single window for environmental, wildlife, forest and Coastal Regulation Zone clearances. He also released a book on National Biofuel Policy 2018. Speaking on the occasion, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, the government has focused on biofuels as it helps fight climate change and also helps sugarcane farmers raise their income.


Congress members in the Rajya Sabha today forced the adjournment of the House till 2.30 pm on the Rafale issue. They demanded the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to look into the allegations of irregularities in the Rafale aircraft deal between India and France. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Leader of Opposition, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad sought a short duration discussion on the issue. Responding to this, Deputy Chairman Mr Harivansh said the matter could not be raised as a notice on it was not approved by the Chairman. Mr Anand Sharma of the Congress alleged that the Prime Minister had bypassed the Cabinet Committee on Security before signing the agreement to procure the fighter jets. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel objected to the opposition allegations against the Prime Minister. He described the allegations as baseless and said it is not permitted under the rules. Following this, the House witnessed noisy scenes leading to its adjournment till 2.30 pm.


The government will introduce the triple talaq bill for consideration and passing in the Rajya Sabha today. The bill, which has been already cleared by the Lok Sabha, is set to be tabled in the upper house with the government looking to introduce all three amendments.

Yesterday, the Union Cabinet approved certain amendments in the Triple Talaq bill including bail provisions for the accused before the trial. Talking to reporters after cabinet meeting in New Delhi, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the cabinet has approved three amendments to the Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage Bill which has been cleared by Lok Sabha and pending approval of Rajya Sabha.

Other bills scheduled to be taken up by the Upper house are Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Bill and Commercial Courts (Amendment) Bills. In the Lok Sabha, the government will introduce Personal Laws (Amendment) Bill and Consumer Protection Bill. Today is the last day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.


Finance Minister Piyush Goyal today said that a higher rate of interest of 8.1 per cent is provided by the Centre on the balances under the Sukanya Samridhi Yojana. In a reply in the Lok Sabha, Mr Goyal said that the scheme was introduced in December 2014 and that it is being implemented in the entire country covering all States and Union Territories. He informed the House that till June this year, over 1 crore 39 lakh 85 thousand accounts have been opened in the country with a total deposit of around 26 thousand crore rupees.


In Assam, forms for claims, objections and corrections of the draft National Register of Citizens are being made available at the NRC Seva Kendras from today. The forms can also be downloaded from <>. Submission and receipt of claims, objections and correction forms will start from the 30th of August till the 28th of September.

"Over 40 lakh names have not  appeared in the complete NRC draft published on 30th of July. Applicants who do not find their names in the complete NRC draft would get ample opportunity to prove their eligibility for inclusion in the final NRC. Advertisements to make people aware of the entire claim and objection process are being published in newspapers.  If an applicant died after submission of Application form, his or her name, in case eligible will not be excluded from the Complete Draft NRC. Claims and objections can only be submitted at the Seva Kendras but corrections can also be made online.  Final NRC will be published only after disposal of all claims, objections and corrections. President Ramnath Kovind today said that one cannot think  about the development of India without the development of Uttar Pradesh. He was speaking during the inauguration of the one district one product summit which aims at boosting micro, small and medium enterprises in Lucknow today. The President said the state has enough potential to achieve 1 trillion dollar economy.

President said that ODOP will encourage handicrafts and products of districts and it will also create jobs for youth and therefore strengthen the economy.  

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed  President Ramnath Kovind at the event and presented Shrimadbhagavat Gita made by artisans of Saharanpur.

"President Ramnath Kovind inaugurated a coffee table book, toll free helpline number and the website of ODOP. President also distributed tool kits to artisans. On this occasion loan sanction papers worth Rs 1006.94 crores were distributed to 4095 beneficiaries of ODOP scheme. MOUs were also signed between state government and many companies including Amazon, BSE ,NSE.  Sushil Chandra Tiwari, AIR News, Lucknow."


Incessant rains and floods have claimed at least 26 lives in Kerala in the last two days. The Met Department has predicted heavy rain fall for another 48 hours in the state. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard are deployed in various affected districts for rescue operations.

"State tourism minister informed that the tourists who were trapped in a resort in Munnar, Idukki following landslide are safe. Tourists including 30 foreign nationals were trapped in the resort when the road to resort  was closed due to landslide. Minister said  army has already started work to clear the road. With the opening of dams including Idukki dam, the low-lying areas in Ernakulam and Alappuzha districts were submerged. People are being rehabilitated to relief camps. Holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in the worst affected districts. With the rising water immersing the famous Siva Temple in Aluva, there are increased concerns over Karkidaka Vavu Bali which will be performed  tomorrow. Shamila for AIR news Thiruvananthapuram."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and offered all possible assistance to those affected. In a tweet, Prime Minister said he had discussed the situation arising due to floods in various parts of the state.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said in Parliament that he will speak to Kerala Chief Minister on the issue. He was responding to a question on the issue of the Kerala floods in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour.


The Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana was launched for providing loans up to 10 lakh Rs to smalls/ micro enterprises. The scheme has benefited a number of people in the remote corners of Goa.

"The  Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana has received significant response in Goa. Benefits of the scheme have percolated to the remotest corners of the state. For example, in Harvalem village near Sankelim town in North Goa, several small business operators have availed of loans under  the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana. Vishnu Madkar, a toy and gift shopowner from the village, speaks about how he availed of a loan under the scheme and the resulting benefits to his business.

Women borrowers have also come ahead to establish businesses through Mudra loans in the state. Overall, the scheme has widely assisted small entrepreneurs launch new business initiatives or expand their businesses to keep pace with competition. SAIKAT SARKAR FROM GOA FOR AIR."


The Centre today told the Supreme Court that it does not concur with the Tamil Nadu government's proposal to release seven convicts in former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case. The Centre said that remission of their sentence will set a dangerous precedence and have international ramifications. A bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi, Navin Sinha and K M Joseph took the document filed by the Ministry of Home Affairs on record and adjourned the matter.


Afghan forces in the eastern provincial capital of Ghazni, have pushed out Tailban fighters who attacked the city last night leaving 14 people dead and 20 wounded.  Defence Ministry spokesman Mohammad Radmanish said that the army helped the police and the city was now under the control of government forces. 

Governor's spokesman, Gelani Farhad said that  another Taliban attack last night in western Herat province, left six policemen dead in the district of Obe.


Indian shuttlers Ajay Jayaram, Rituparna Das and Mithun Manjunath  will play the quarterfinals of the Vietnam Open in Ho Chi Minh City today. In Men's singles, Jayaram will face Canada’s Xiaodong Sheng. Manjunath will face China’s Zhou Zeqi. And in Women's singles, Rituparna will play against Thailand’s Phittayaporn Chaiwan.


India's Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was today named the Indian contingent's flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the Asian Games to be held on August 18 in Jakarta. Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Batra made the announcement today during the send-off ceremony organised for the contingent. The 18th Asian Games will be held from the 18th of August to the 2nd of September in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
