  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveils Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan ensuring affordable health care for poor. The initiative to be rolled out on 25th of next month.

The country today marked its 72nd Independence Day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations in the national capital. From the ramparts of the historic Red Fort, Mr Modi unveiled the world's largest government funded  healthcare programme - the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan.

प्रधानमंत्री जन आरोग् अभियान के तहत आयुष्मान भारत योजना के तहत देश के 10 करोड़ परिवार हर परिवार को 5 लाख रूपया सालाना ये हैल् एश्योरेंस देने की योजना है। 25 सितम्बर पं. दीनदयाल उपाध्याय की जन् जयंती पर पूरे देश में प्रधानमंत्री जन आरोग् अभियान लान् कर दिया जाएगा और उसका परिणाम यह होने वाला है कि देश के गरीब व्यक्ति को अब बीमारी के संकट से जुझना नहीं पड़ेगा।

In his Independence day speech, Mr Modi said, there is a need to ensure social justice for all and create an India that is progressing rapidly. He said, the recently concluded Parliament session was devoted to social justice.

हमारी संसद ने संवेदनशीलता और सजागता के साथ सामाजिक न्याय को और अधिक बलवत्तर बनाया है। ओबीसी आयोग को सालो से संवैधानिक स्थान के लिए मांग उठ रही थी। इस बार संसद ने पिछडे अति पिछडों को उस आयोग को संवैधानिक दर्जा देकर के उनके हकों की रक्षा करने का प्रयास किया है।

The Prime Minister announced that by 2022 or before that an Indian astronaut, be it son or daughter, will go into space on board 'Gaganyaan.

2022, जब आजादी के 75 साल होंगे, तब चाहे बेटा हो या बेटी वे अंतरिक्ष में जाएंगे। अब हम मानव सहित गगनयान लेकर के चलेंगे और ये गगनयान जब अंतरिक्ष में जाएगा, तब विश् के अंदर हम चौथे देश बन जाएगे, जो मानव को अंतरिक्ष में पहुंचाने वाले बन जाएगे।

Mr Modi declared that women officers commissioned in short service in the Armed Forces will get the opportunity for permanent commission like their male counterparts. 

On Triple Talaq, the Prime Minister said, the practice has caused great injustice to Muslim women and the Government will ensure that justice is done.

हमने पार्लियामेंट में कानून लाकर के हमारी इन महिलाओं को कुरीतियों से मुक्ति दिलाने का बीड़ा उठाया है। लेकिन अभी भी कुछ लोग है, जो इसे पारित नहीं होने देते है। लेकिन मैं मेरे देश की इन पीडि़त माताओं, बहनों को, मेरी मुस्लिम बेटियों को मैं विश्वास दिलाता हूं उनके न्याय के लिए, उनके हक के लिए करने में कुछ भी कमी नहीं रखूगां।

On Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Modi said, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had shown the path of Insaniyat, Kashmiryat and Jamhuriyat. He said, government does not believe in bullet and abuse and all the problems of the state can be resolved by embracing people. He said, preparations for the long-standing panchayat and local body elections are underway to further strengthen democracy in the State.

In his fifth address from the Red Fort, the Prime Minister said, the decisions on One Rank One Pension and increasing Minimum Support Price were pending for years, which were taken by his Government.

The Prime Minister said, the government will not spare the corrupt and those who have black money as they have ruined the nation. He said, the honest taxpayers of the country have a major role in the progress of the nation.

He said, due to Swachh Bharat mission, lakhs of children are leading healthier lives.

पिछले दिनों डब्ल्यूएचओ की रिपोर्ट आई है कि भारत में स्वच्छता अभियान के कारण तीन लाख बच्चें मरने से बच गये हैं। कौन हिन्दुस्तानी होगा, जिसको स्वच्छता में भागीदारी बन करके इन तीन लाख बच्चों की जिन्दगी बचाने का अवसर मिला हो। गरीब के तीन लाख बच्चों की जिन्दगी बचना कितना बड़ा मानवता का काम है।  


President Ram Nath Kovind today paid tributes to Martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate in New Delhi on the Independence Day.

In the evening, Mr.Kovind hosted an 'At Home' reception at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders were present on the occasion.


Flag hoisting ceremonies marked the Independence day celebrations in states. Functions were held in all state capitals and district headquarters on the occasion .

In Jammu & Kashmir, Governor N N Vohra unfurled the tricolour at Sher e Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar. 

Addressing the gathering, Governor Vohra called upon all shades of political opinion to shun confrontational politics and work with unity for the peace, progress and economic development of J&K state.  He called upon youth to shun path of militancy and become part of developmental mainstream. Governor said that all preparations are underway for the conduct of long overdue Panchayat and Local Bodies elections between September and December this year.  TARIQ RATHER, AIR NEWS, SRINAGAR.

In his Independence Day speech, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, the state is moving towards building prosperous and new Madhya Pradesh.

 The main function was held at the Motilal Nehru Stadium, Bhopal where State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan unfurled the national flag and took the salute at a march past by 18 contingents including NCC and police . For the first time a contingent from Nagaland also participated in the Parade under Ek Bharat-Shreshth Bharat campaign.On this occasion, the Chief Minister gave away 59 medals including 3 Sarvottam Jivan Raksha Medal, 1 Uttam Jeevan Rakshak Medal and 6 President’s Vishisht Seva Medal for Police.Sanjeev Sharma, AIR News, Bhopal

In Uttar Pradesh, over 9 crore saplings were planted in different parts of state on the occasion.

The plantation drive was inaugurated by governor Ram Naik in Lucknow and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur. Principal Secretary Information Avnish Awasthi told AIR that this is a record number of plantations in a single day. Whole state machinery along with general public took part in the historical plantation drive. Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh hoisted the tricolor at the First Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in the state capital Imphal.

In his Independence Day speech, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy said that the aim of the Government is to fulfill the dreams of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to make the state a numero uno in all fields.

Indians living abroad also celebrated the day with the hoisting of national flag and national anthem reverberating at Indian missions across the world. Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmad Javed  led the Indian expats in celebrating the Independence Day. In Abu Dhabi , the national flag was unfurled by Ambassador Navdeep Suri.

In Sri Lanka, the main ceremony was held at the India House in Colombo.

Independence day celebrations were held in Sri Lanka with enthusiasm with hundreds of Indians participating at Colombo, Kandy, Jaffna and Hambantota. BSF contingent staged march past and patriotic songs were presented on the occasion. Indian high commissioner in Colombo and consul general in Jaffna presented respects to IPKF memorials in remembrance of those who laid down their lives during peacekeeping operations in Sri Lanka. Famous singer Usha Uthup and her ensemble are presenting a musical evening titled ‘Symphony of Freedom’ to mark the celebrations. SANTOSH KUMAR, AIR NEWS, COLOMBO.


Ayushman Bharat, CEO Indu Bhushan has said, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan under Ayushman Bharat is ready to be rolled out on 25th of next month. Talking to AIR, Mr Bhushan said, 29 states and and Union Territories are on board so far.

We prepared the software and which is now being rolled down in states, so in next 40 days, we will be going from state to state and ensuring that they can launch the scheme by 25th of September.  So far, we have 29 states on board and seven states are still to come on board. We are working with them and we are hopeful that in next few weeks, few states also join the mission.


After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on space mission Gaganyaan, ISRO Chairman K Sivan said, it is ready to carry out the task entrusted to it by the Prime Minister. Addressing media persons in Bengaluru today, the Chairman said, the space agency has already developed the necessary technology. Dr. Sivan informed that infrastructural facilities for the manned mission will be developed in a time bound manner within the deadline set by Mr Modi.


In Kerala, a red has been issued in all 14 districts of the state as rain fury continued unabated triggering landslides  in Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. Death toll from flood and rain related incidents has risen to 50. Altogether, 33 dams have been opened and all the rivers are overflowing in the state. Rail, Road and Air traffic have been hit due to heavy rain. Operation at the Kochi airport has been suspended till Saturday and flights are being diverted to various nearby airports. Holiday has been declared in educational institutions in most of the districts. The Met department has forecast heavy rain across all districts in Kerala till Saturday.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a high level meeting today and decided to seek more force from the Centre to assist the state machinery.  Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held detailed discussion with Mr Vijayan regarding the situation in the state. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Centre stands firmly with the people of Kerala and is ready to provide any assistance needed. Kerala Chief Minister also spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Mr Singh said, more columns of NDRF would be deployed for rescue operations.


In Odisha, the normal life has been severely affected as heavy rain continued to lash the state since the last three days.The state government has put the district collectors on in view of the heavy shower. The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the next 48 hours with the low pressure area intensifying into a depression today.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited AIIMS in New Delhi to enquire about the health condition of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who is undergoing treatment. Mr Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital in June this year for treatment. Textile Minister Smriti Irani also visited the hospital and enquire about the health condition of Mr Vajpayee.


Union Minister Arun Jaitley today said, India has comfortable foreign exchange reserves to deal with any undue volatility in the currency market. Mr Jaitley's reaction came, a day after the Indian currency hit an all-time low of 70 rupees 1 paisa to a US dollar. In a series of tweet, Mr Jaitley said, recent developments relating to Turkey have generated global risk aversion towards emerging market currencies and the strengthening of the dollar. He said, the country's macro fundamentals remain resilient and strong.


Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh today resigned from the party citing personal reason. In a tweet, he requested Political Affairs Committee to accept his resignation.Reacting to the development, in a tweet, Party Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, he will never accept his resignation. The journalist-turned-politician, Ashutosh had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Chandni Chowk on an AAP ticket.


Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has said, people should teach Indian traditions, rich cultural heritage to children so that country's cultural heritage is protected. Interacting with children from various schools from Delhi today, Mr Naidu said, children are the future of a nation and they should be given good education as well as good conduct.
