In Jammu & Kashmir, the bodies of the three Special Police Officers who were abducted by terrorists have been recovered in Shopian district today. Earlier, terrorists had abducted four persons including three special police officers from two villages of Kapran & Batagund in south Kashmir's Shopian district. One person was set free by the terrorists. No terrorist outfit has claimed responsibility for the killing of the SPOs.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres will be on a four day visit to India from the 1st of next month. The External Affairs Ministry in a release said, Mr Guterres who will be accompanied by a six member delegation, will participate in the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention scheduled on 2nd October. Here is a desk report:-
"The Convention, to mark the launch of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations as well as the 4th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, will be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan Cultural Centre. Besides the conventions the UN Secretary General will also attend the joint inaugural ceremony of the First Assembly of International Solar Alliance and 2nd RE-INVEST Conference and Energy Ministers Meet of Indian Ocean Rim Association of States on the same day in New Delhi. Mr Guterres will call on President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will hold delegation level talks with External Affairs Minister. Swati Rakheja, News Desk."

The first General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance, ISA, will be inaugurated on the 2nd of October in Delhi. External Affairs Ministry said in a release today, that the Ministerial level Assembly will be held in Greater Noida the following day. The ISA is a major initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in contributing to the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement through rapid and massive deployment of solar energy. The Founding Conference of the ISA was jointly hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron in New Delhi on the 11th of March 2018.

In Bihar, CBI has arrested four persons including suspended Assistant Director of Social welfare department in the alleged sexual exploitation of 34 minor girls at Muzaffarpur shelter home. Three of the arrested are close aid of kingpin Brajesh Thakur. The Assistant Director was in-charge of inspection of shelter home. The CBI has frozen 20 bank accounts of Brajesh Thakur besides any kind of transaction of his movable and immovable properties. Sources said the CBI is likely to interrogate  former Social Welfare Minister Manju Verma following her alleged involvement in shelter home incident. The Supreme Court had termed as very disturbing the facts emerging from CBIs probe into Shelter home sexual abuse case and asked Bihar police to probe the alleged recovery of illegal arms and ammunition from the residence of former Minister Manju Verma and her husband.

In Assam, at least six persons were electrocuted to death and one person was seriously injured in Khatowal area of Juria in Nagaon district. The incident took place when an 11,000 volt live wire fell into a pond.
Residents said that the wire fell into the pond earlier and power connection was cut. However, as the people descended into the pond for fishing after ensuring that the power had been cut, the wire suddenly became live leading to the electrocution. 6 persons were killed on the spot, while another was rushed to Nagaon civil hospital in a critical condition.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has deputed Minister Topon Gogoi to Juria to oversee the situation. Mr. Sonowal has also ordered an enquiry into the incident. SDRF teams have reached the pond to carry out search operations.

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered a safety audit of all scheduled airlines and airports, amid recent incidents related to safety of passengers. Our correspondent reports, the Minister has directed officials concerned to immediately prepare a comprehensive safety audit plan, which involves assessment of safety parameters of all scheduled airlines, aerodromes, flying training schools and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Organisations. The development assumes significance as it comes on a day when at least 30 passengers on a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Jaipur suffered nose and ear bleeding after the crew forgot to turn on a switch that controls cabin air pressure. The Minister has also ordered a probe into the Jet Airways flight incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people in India and abroad in his Mann Ki Baat programme of All India Radio on 30th of this month. It will be the 48th episode of the monthly radio programme. In a tweet, Mr Modi has requested people to share their ideas and suggestions on the Narendra Modi App and MyGov Open Forum. People can also dial the toll free number 1800-11-7800 and record their message for the Prime Minister in either Hindi or English. Some of the recorded messages may become part of the broadcast. The phone line will be open till the 26th of this month. People can also give a missed call on 1922 and follow the link received in SMS to directly give their suggestions to the Prime Minister.

The cyclonic storm “DAYE” over south Odisha and its neighbourhood has moved west-northwestwards with a speed of about 26 kilometers per hour and weakened into a deep depression.
Our correspondent reports as the cyclonic storm crossed Odisha coast, heavy downpour occurred in southern and south-west region of the State, raising the water level of major rivers in  Malkangiri, Balasore and Koraput districts. As per the information received, road communication is disrupted at different places in Malkangiri district. Communication with Chhattisgarh has also been affected as Challanguda bridge got submerged. More from our correspondent:
"Due to heavy downpour, water level in Balimela and upper Kolab reservoirs has increased forcing the authorities to open gates to drain excess flood water from dams. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed the flood-like situation in Malkangiri and announced distribution of relief and  financial assistance for seven days to affected people. Malkangiri recorded the highest rainfall during the last 24 hours . Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Met office said as the storm turned into deep depression, many parts of southern and south-west regions of the State are likely to experience heavy downpour in next 12 hours. SN Pattnaik, AIR News, Sambalpur."

Gujarat government has declared the entire Kutch district as scarcity affected area. This was announced by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani after review meetings at Bhuj- the district headquarter of Kutch last night. Apart from Kutch district, all tehsils and blocks with less than 125 millimeters of rainfall during the current monsoon have also been declared as scarcity affected. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that various relief measures in the scarcity affected areas will start from the 1st of October. He also announced drinking water pipeline projects worth 296 crore rupees for Kutch district.

In Assam, people are reaping the benefits of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushalya Yojana. The central government scheme, launched on 25th September 2014, is part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission. It is tasked with the objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and catering to the career aspirations of rural youth. Here is a ground report from our Silchar correspondent:
"The rural youth, who were hesitant, even in personal communication, are now full of confidence. This happened due to the training on soft skills under Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushalya Yojana. ‘India Can’ training centre in Silchar Town is training these youth in different modules like Hotel Management, Retail and BPO. Scholarship, free of cost food and lodging, and medical facility is making their study easy. Here is the experience of  Fuzel Ahmed:
Ananadita Deb, one of the co-ordinators of this institution, seems assured on the issue of placement.

The day marks the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, who laid down their lives for upholding truth, righteousness and justice in Karbala. Tazia processions are being taken out to mark the occasion. Majaalis or religious meetings, highlighting the supreme sacrifice of Karbala Martyrs are also being held.

Former Maldives President Mohammed Nasheed has charged that Sunday's Presidential elections are already rigged by President Abdullah Yameen but his side will not abstain from the election process. Addressing a press conference in Colombo today, Mr. Nasheed who is in exile now, said that they are taking part in the election process not because they have faith in the election process but because they have faith in their people and peaceful electoral activity. Mr. Nasheed heads the Maldives Democratic Party and is part of Joint opposition which has put up Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the combined candidate.
Mr. Nasheed, who along with several other opposition leaders are disqualified for elections, hoped that India will monitor the situation very carefully and repeated his call for India’s assistance in conduct of free and fair polls.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang died at the military hospital in Hanoi today, the official Vietnam News Agency reported. He was 61. Reports say Quang had been suffering from serious illness for several months and had received medical treatment abroad and in Vietnam. ran Dai Quang had been sworn into office in 2016, following his stint as head of the ministry of public security.  The role of the President in Vietnam is largely ceremonial.

The Stock Market witnessed steep volatility in afternoon trade as key benchmarks recovered sharply after a brief crash in share prices.  The Sensex rose 368 points, at the day's high of 37,489 in morning trade. The index crashed 1128 points at the day's low of 35,994 in afternoon trade. The BSE Sensex was trading at 36,864 points losing 257 points a short while ago. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange lost 91 points to trade at 11,143.
At the forex market, the rupee strengthened 14 paise to 72 rupees 23 paise against the US dollar, in afternoon deals.

In Cricket, India take on Bangladesh in Dubai while Pakistan will meet Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi in the Super Four encounters of Asia Cup today. Both the matches will begin at 5 p.m. For India, the worry will be the team combination as Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the tournament owing to back spasms.
Yesterday, Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by 136 runs in a Group B match in Abu Dhabi. Chasing a mammoth target of 256 runs, Bangladesh were all out for just 119 in 42.1 overs. For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Gulbadin Naib took two wickets each.

Tamil Nadu government has announced a novel scheme for the protection of the exotic Neela kurinji (Strobilanthus kunthianus) plants that flower only once in 12 years. Following complaints that these rare and ecologically unique flowers are being packaged and sold on commercial basis, the state department has warned that strict fines will be imposed on offenders. The Neela Kurinju, native to the Western Ghats, is a major attraction for foreign and native tourists.
