Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the proposed grand alliance of opposition parties as a failed experiment. Addressing the concluding session of the BJP National convention at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi today, Mr Modi alleged that these parties are coming together as they want to form a helpless government to promote nepotism and corruption. He said, BJP on the other hand wants a strong dispensation for all-round development of the country. Mr Modi said, the people should decide whether they want a strong government or a weak one formed by opposition alliance out of desperation.

The Prime Minister said, Congress led opposition parties are forming alliances just to oust BJP out of power in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Mr Modi expressed pride that for the first time in nation's history, a government has not had a single charge of corruption against it. He said the previous UPA government had pushed the nation into dark and India lost 10 important years in scams and corruption charges. He accused Congress leadership of not having faith in law and institutions. Mr Modi alleged that Congress is trying to obstruct the Ayodhya case in Supreme Court by sending its lawyer.

The Prime Minister said ten-per cent reservation in education and government jobs for the youth from economically weaker sections will enhance the confidence of 'New India'.

Mr Modi asserted that the new arrangement will not encroach upon existing quota for other sections of the society. He reiterated that NDA government is working day and night to double farmers' income by 2022.

Mr Modi said Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas and Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat are the mottos of his government. He added that Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot should be the mantra for victory. He also listed government's welfare works done for different sections of society.

BJP has said, 2019 Lok Sabha elections would be a fight between stability and instability. In a political resolution passed in the ongoing BJP National Council meeting in New Delhi, the party said the 2019 General elections will be a fight between honesty and dishonesty and time has come for the country to decide whether it wants a strong or a weak government. Briefing media about the resolution, senior party leader and Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad said the India of 2019 is vastly different from the India of the 1990s where a Prime Minister did not last for more than one year. He also said, the resolution also talks about inclusive growth in every sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

In his speech, Senior party leader and Union Minister Arun Jaitley asked the party workers to go to the polls on the basis of the strong and decisive leadership of Narendra Modi and good performance of the NDA government. He said when it comes to the issue of leadership, the opposition feels uncomfortable as it does not have a strong, hardworking and performing leader like Mr Modi who has proved his mettle.

Speaking on the resolution, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, security of the country is the top priority of the government. He said non performance and corruption were the features of the UPA government but after NDA came to power, good governance, ease of doing business and development has been delivered.

The Gujarat High Court has framed six issues in an election petition filed against veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel's election to the Rajya Sabha from the state in 2017. The petition has been filed by BJP leader Balvantsinh Rajput challenging  Patel's win. Justice Bela Trivedi framed the issues yesterday. The court  fixed the next hearing for January 18th.

The issues framed by the court include whether Patel or his election agent committed an act of bribery and undue influence and thereby indulged in corrupt practices as alleged by Rajput.  Some of the other issues are whether two invalid votes cast by Congress MLAs Shailesh Parmar and Miteshbhai Garasia, and improper refusal or rejection of votes cast by rebel Congress MLAs Bholabhai Gohil and Raghvjibhai Patel had materially affected the outcome of the election.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court had asked Ahmed Patel to face trial in connection with his election to the Rajya Sabha.
