Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated and laid foundation stones of several development projects at Kurukshetra in Haryana today. Mr. Modi dedicated to the nation the National Cancer Institute at Bhadsa in Jhajjar district. The institute is the state-of-the-art tertiary cancer care-cum-research centre constructed at the AIIMS Jhajjar campus.

Mr Modi also inaugurated Employees' State Insurance Corporation's (ESIC) medical college and hospital in Faridabad.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of National Institute of Ayurveda in Panchkula which is being set up at Shri Mata Mansa Devi Temple Complex. Foundation stone of Sri Krishna Ayush University, Kurukshetra was also be laid by Mr Modi.

Another foundation stone was laid for Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay University of Health Sciences in Karnal.

Mr Modi also laid the foundation stone of 'Battles of Panipat Museum' at Panipat. The museum will honour the heroes of various battles of Panipat.

Upon reaching Kurukshetra, the Prime Minister visited the Swachh Sundar Shauchalay exhibition. Mr. Modi also gave away the Swachh Shakti awards to woman sarpanches from across the country in Swach shakti 2019 programme. Swach Shakti, a programme aimed at empowering women, is a national event which is attended by women panchs and sarpanchs from across the country.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said various provisions of the Citizenship (Amedment) Bill 2019 have been clarified to political leaders from North Eastern states including some chief ministers. In a written statement in Lok Sabha, Mr Singh said the Bill was passed by Lok Sabha in the Winter Session of Parliament. Mr Singh said the central government has apprised the representatives of North Eastern states of the steps that have been taken to preserve the cultural, social and linguistic identity and heritage of people of North East. Mr. Singh added that it is with this intent that a high level committee is constituted to examine effectiveness of actions taken since 1985 for improving financial resources and administrative powers of Autonomous district councils of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura, to fulfil long standing aspirations of tribal people of these states.


Home Minister Rajnatn Singh today said that the Congress is misleading the people by raking up the Rafale issue time and again. He said, it has been discussed in detail in the Lok Sabha and the Supreme Court has also put the matter to rest. Making an intervention in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, the Home Minister said the opposition should indulge in healthy politics instead of misleading people.

"राफेल के मुद्दे पर इस संसद में चर्चा हो चुकी है। साथ ही साथ सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भी इस संबंध में अपना फैसला दे दिया है। इसलिए नेता प्रतिपक्ष अपनी तरफ से यह कोशिश कर रहे हैं। बार-बार असत् को बोलकर उसे सत् साबित करने की कोशिश जनता को इनके द्वारा गुमराह करने की कोशिश की जा रही है। हेल्दी डेमोक्रेसी में, मैं समझता हूं कि यदि कोई पोल्टिक् करना चाहता है तो जनता की आंख में धूल झोककर उसे पोल्टिक् करनी चाहिए।"

Earlier, Leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the deal. 


The government today assured that it will do everything possible to fulfil the demands of over one lakh lawyers who are on a protest in the country. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the government has an open mind and will redress their grievances to the best extent possible.


The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 2 PM as members from Samajwadi Party tried to raise the issue of former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav allegedly being stopped at Lucknow airport on his way to Prayagraj. Party leader Prof Ram Gopal Yadav sought the Chair’s attention on the matter even as his party members were raising slogans. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, however, refused permission and adjourned the House amid din.


President Ram Nath Kovind today unveiled the life size portrait of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Central Hall of Parliament. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Ministers, and leaders of various parties were present during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind said, Atal Bihari Vajpayee will always be remembered among the great statesmen of India. He said, the former Prime Minister provided crucial leadership in challenging situations.

"अटलबिहारी वाजपेयी जी ने चुनौतिपूर्ण परिस्थितियों में निणार्यक नेतृत् प्रदान किया। उनकी दूरदर्शिता, नीतियों और नेतृत् के फलस्वरूप भारत ने 21वीं सदी में एक नई गतिशीलता के साथ प्रवेश किया और विश् पटल पर अपनी शक्तिशाली पहचान बनाई।"

In his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had a long political career and a large part of it was spent in Opposition. He said, despite that, the former Prime Minister continued raising issues of public interest and never ever deviated from his ideology.

"ऐसे व्यक्तित्व बहुत कम होते हैं, इतने साल पार्लियामेंट के गलियारे में जिंदगी गुजारने के बाद भी दशकों तक सत्ता से दूर रहते हुए जन-सामान्य की पवित्रता से, निष्ठा से सेवा करते रहना, सामान्य मानवी की आवाज को बुलंद करते रहना और व्यक्ति के जीवन के हित के लिए ना कभी रास्ता बदलना, ये अपने आप में, सार्वजनिक जीवन में हम जैसे कईं कार्यकर्ताओं ने बहुत कुछ सीखने जैसा है।"


The Supreme Court today convicted and punished the then acting CBI Director M Nageswara Rao and agency's legal advisor S Bhasuram by imposing a fine of 1 lakh rupees each and sentenced them to sit in the courtroom till the rising of the court for committing contempt of its orders. The apex court held them guilty of its contempt for willfully disobeying its order by transferring CBI Joint Director A K Sharma, who was probing the Bihar shelter home sexual assault cases.


The ongoing questioning of the Kolkata Police Commissioner in connection with the Saradha Chit-Fund scam entered the fourth day today. The questioning began around 11: 00 am this morning. He has been questioned at the CBI office in Shillong.

Former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh's questioning by the agency in the case ended yesterday, while Kumar's was extended by another day.


Congress President Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law, Robert Vadra, and his mother Maureen appeared before the Enforcement Directorate at its zonal office in Jaipur today in connection with a land scam probe. This is Vadra's fourth appearance before the agency and first in Jaipur.


In Delhi, seventeen people including a child lost their lives in a fire that broke out early this morning at a hotel located in Karol Bagh. Delhi fire services said, two persons have been seriously injured in the incident.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said most of the people died due to suffocation. He said, District Magistrate has already ordered an inquiry in the incident.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives and expressed hope that the injured will recover soon.


In Jammu & Kashmir, one terrorist was killed and two army Jawan were martyred in an encounter in Ratnipora area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir. The encounter erupted early this morning following launch of cordon and search operation.


The Senior National Badminton Championship has begun in Guwahati today. Defending champion Saina Nehwal and last edition's runner-up PV Sindhu are the biggest attractions in Women's Singles. The Men's Singles will be without defending champion HS Prannoy and runners-up Kidambi Srikanth who are suffering from injuries. In their absence, former champions Sameer Verma and Parupalli Kashyap will be leading the charge.
