India has once again made it clear to Pakistan that terror and talks cannot go together. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, New Delhi is ready to engage with Islamabad in an atmosphere free from terror. Mrs Swaraj was speaking at an event in Delhi. She said, Islamabad should take the strictest action against terrorism and must stop sponsoring it.


"मैं कहना चाहती हूं वजीरे-आजम पाकिस्तान से कि टेरर पे बात नहीं एक्शन चाहिए। हमने बहुत साफ कह रखा है। टेरर इन टॉक् कॉन् गो टूगैदर वी आर रैडी टू इंगेज़ विद पाकिस्तान इन ऑटमोसफियर विद्आउट टेरर एंड वायलेंस।"


Saying that some people are of the view that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is a statesman, Mrs Swaraj said JEM, if he is really generous, Mr Khan should hand over Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar to India.

The BJP has criticized Congress President Rahul Gandhi over the views he expressed on China's stand on Masood Azhar at the United Nations.


In a tweet, Mr Gandhi had said, the Prime Minister should react on China putting the technical hold on proscribing Azhar as global terrorist by the sanctions committee of the United Nations Security Council. He said, not a single word has been said by the Prime Minister when China has acted against India in the matter.


Briefing media in New Delhi, Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, there must be consensus on the issue of foreign policy and every one should speak in one voice in this regard.


Reacting to the Azhar issue, Congress said, China's move is a major setback for global fight against terrorism. Talking to media in New Delhi this evening, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, China has once again reaffirmed its position of being an inseparable ally of Pakistan. He also questioned the foreign policy of the government.

Senior BJP leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today hit out at Congress, alleging that the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was the original sinner who favoured China over India for a permanent membership of the United Nation Security Council. In a series of tweets, Mr Jaitley quoted a letter written by Nehru to Chief Ministers on 2nd August, 1955. He said, the original mistake, both on Kashmir and China, was committed by the same person.

India and Pakistan have agreed to work expeditiously on operationalizing the Kartapur corridor. The corridor will facilitate Indian pilgrims to visit the holy shrine of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Pakistan.The agreement was reached during the first meeting between the representatives of the two countries held at Attari in Punjab today. The External Affairs Ministry, in a release said, the two sides agreed to hold the next meeting at Wagah on 2nd of next month.


The high level meeting between Indian delegation at Attari was held in a cordial environment. Indian delegation suggested Visa free entry for devotees. Both sides also held expert level discussions between the technical experts on the alignment and other details of the proposed corridor.India will complete the construction of corridor in two phases. In the first phase, terminal with state of Art design will be constructed at a cost of 140 crore rupees. Both sides agreed to speed up the work on the project and first phase of the project in India will be completed by 19th of September. Ashwani Kumar Sharma, AIR News, Chandigarh"

The Nationalist Congress Party, NCP, has announced its first list of candidates for Lok Sabha elections. The list contains names of 12 candidates including eleven from Maharashtra and one from Lakshadweep. Prominent among those who have been named are former state Irrigation Minister Sunil Tatkare, who would be contesting from Raigad, NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s daughter and sitting MP Supriya Sule from Baramati and Anand Paranjpe from Thane.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who is on a day's visit in Kerala, kick-started state-level campaign of the party for Lok Sabha polls. Addressing Jana Maha Rally of party workers in Kozhikode this evening, Mr Rahul Gandhi said, unlike BJP, Congress listens to everyone and does not impose anything upon people.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) today held the first briefing for Observers to be deployed in the states in run up to the forthcoming elections to the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies of four States. Over 1800 senior officers drawn from IAS, IPS, IRS and other Central Services attended the meeting in New Delhi. The officers are being deployed as General, Police and Expenditure Observers. An official release said, the officers were given comprehensive and thorough inputs about various aspects of election management by senior officials of the Commission.


Congress, PDP and delegations of various other political parties met ECI-appointed Special Observers Team at Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir today. This was a follow up of real assessment exercise the poll panel for exploring possibility for holding assembly elections in the state. National Conference did not meet the team of observers.


The team comprising retired IAS officers Noor Mohammed and Vinod Zutshi and retired IPS officer, Amarjit Singh Gill, arrived in Srinagar this morning on a two-day visit to the state.

President Ram Nath Kovind today conferred three Kirti Chakra and fifteen Shaurya Chakra to Armed Forces Personnel at the Defence Investiture Ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan.


"Kirti Chakras were conferred on Sepoy Vrahma Pal Singh of Rajput Regiment and CRPF constable Rajendra Kumar Nain posthumously. CRPF Head Constable Dhanawade Ravindra Baban was posthumously honoured with Shaurya Chakra. They displayed exceptional bravery and commitment to duty in fighting terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. The President also conferred fifteen Param Vishisht Seva Medals, one Uttam Yudh Seva Medal and twenty-five Ati Vishisht Seva Medals to officers of the Armed Forces for distinguished service of an exceptional order. One of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal was conferred on Army Chief General Bipin Rawat." ANUPAM MISHRA, AIR NEWS, DELHI.

The Supreme Court today said it will decide first on the preliminary objections raised by the Centre and then go into the facts of the Rafale fighter jet deal case.


A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi wrapped up the hearing on preliminary objections by the Centre that review petitioners in the case cannot rely on privileged documents obtained illegally. It will be known later as to when the order will be pronounced on the issue. The bench asked the petitioners-- former Union Ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie and advocate Prashant Bhushan seeking review of its December last year's verdict to focus on the preliminary objections regarding admissibility of the leaked documents.


During the hearing, Attorney General K K Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, claimed privilege over documents pertaining to the Rafale fighter jet deal with France. He told the top court that no one can produce them in the court without the permission of the department concerned.

An anti-terror court at Panchkula in Haryana today adjourned its hearing of 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case to 18th of this month due to an ongoing strike by local lawyers.


68 people were killed in the explosion in Samjhauta Express near Panipat in Haryana in 2007.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) today successfully test fired indigenously developed, low weight Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile for the second time in the ranges of Rajasthan desert. The Defence Ministry, in a statement, said, the missile is incorporated with advanced features. The first test was conducted yesterday.

In Mumbai, four persons were killed and 18 others injured after a portion of a foot over bridge connecting platform number one of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus collapsed this evening. The bridge is used by numerous people entering the Terminus.

British MPs are set to vote tonight on whether to ask the EU for permission to delay Brexit beyond 29th March departure date. This comes after the legislators yesterday rejected no-deal Brexit by a narrow margin, preventing Britain from crashing out of the European Union without any transition phase.


Prime Minister Theresa May will also make a third attempt to get her Brexit deal through Parliament next week. May, however, has told the MPs that if her deal fails again to get their backing, a longer extension to Brexit will be needed, requiring the UK to take part in elections for the European Parliament in May. The withdrawal agreement has twice been rejected by overwhelming majorities in the Parliament.

National Film Archives of India, NFAI, Director, Prakash Magdum has said film technology has changed significantly over the years. In an interview to AIR News, he said to keep pace with the new technology, all the preserved records of NFAI have been digitised. He added that apart from films, the paper material has also been digitalized for easy access to public.

Special Olympics World Games 2019 began at Abu Dhabi in the UAE this evening with a glittering opening ceremony.


"The Indian contingent , second largest after the host UAE marched proudly holding the tricolor. Being held in the Middle East for the first time, 7,500 athletes will take part in 24 Olympic-style sports over seven days. Nine world-class venues in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will accommodate aproximatly 500,000 spectators, 1,500 officials will referee the Games, while 3,000 coaches will assist the athletes. For the first time , 200 nations are being represented at the World Games - 195 are participating and 5 others are observing. Al large number of women athletes is also competing at the games. In Badminton, Asian junior champion Lakshya Sen stormed into the Men's Singles quarterfinals of China Masters tournament. The Indian, ranked 104 in the world, defeated Ha Young-woong of South Korea at Lingshui. Sen will take on Zhou Zeqi of China in the round of eight match tomorrow.
