The BJP has released its second list of 36 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. It includes 23 candidates for Andhra Pradesh, where polling will be held in the first phase on April 11. The list was announced late last night after it was finalised by the BJP Central Election Committe in New Delhi. The list also contains names of six candidates for Maharashtra, five for Odisha and one each for Assam and Meghalaya. BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra will contest Lok Sabha election from Puri constituency in Odisha, while Basanta Kumar Panda will fight from Kalahandi.

For Andhra Pradesh, the list includes the name of Dilip Kumar Kilaru who will contest from Vijayawada Parliamentary Constituency.

In Maharashtra, candidates who have been given tickets include Girish Bapat from Pune and Smita Uday Wagh from Jalgaon.

The BJP has announced 221 candidates for Lok Sabha polls so far.

The party has also released the second list of its candidates for Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The list contains the names of 51 candidates for Andhra Pradesh and 22 candidates for Odisha.

In Bihar, the NDA will announce its candidates for the Lok Sabha elections today. The State unit Presidents of the BJP, JD(U) and LJP will be present on the occasion. BJP and JD(U) will contest 17 seats each, while LJP will fight in the remaining six constituencies.

The Congress has released its 7th list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls. It was finalised by the party Central Election Committee containing the names of 35 candidates. The list has four candidates from Chhattishgarh, three from Jammu and Kashmir, five from Maharashtra, two from Odisha, eight from Tamil Nadu, nine from Uttar Pradesh, One each from Puducherry and Telanagana and Two from Tripura. Raj Babbar will fight from Fatehpuri Sikri this time. The has party fielded former Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury from Khammam in Telangana.

The Congress also released a list of 54 candidates for Odisha Assembly elections.

The Nationalist Congress Party also announced candidates for the Madha and Osmanabad Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra.

In a related development, the Janata Dal (Secular) has decided not to field any candidate for the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. JD(S) National General Secretary BG Kolse-Patil said neither he nor any candidate from his party will enter the fray in Maharashtra.

Sikkim Democratic Front has announced the second list of 14 candidates for the 32 member Sikkim Assembly. The Front has declared candidates for all seats. 20  candidates have filed nomination papers for assembly election so far. Last date of filling of nomination paper is 25th of March.

In Telangana, Pradesh Congress Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, TRS sitting MP from Nizamabad K. Kavita are among the prominent candidates who filed their nominations yesterday for the Lok Sabha elections. A number of sitting MPs from both the TRS and Congress are among those who filed nominations. BJP former State President Kishan Reddy also filed nomination paper from Secunderabad constituency.

Our Correspondent says on a single day, 162 nominations have been filed taking the total to 220 from the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies from Telangana.

"Over 50 nominations have been filed in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency on a single day yesterday. Most of them who filed nominations are farmers. Highlighting their problems relating to lack of trade and marketing facilities besides lack of support price, the farmers decided to lodge protest by filing nominations in a huge number. Only one day that is Monday left for filing nominations in the state during the first phase of polling of Lok Sabha elections as today and tomorrow are closed holidays for government offices in the state. Indian Statistical Institute yesterday presented its report on the sample size of the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail, VVPAT slip counting to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora. The Commission said following varying demands for enhanced percentage of VVPAT Slip count during elections, it had engaged the Indian Statistical Institute to systematically analyse and scientifically examine the issue of VVPAT Slip verification with electronic count of the Electronic Voting Machines. Now the Commission will examine the report.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 8 terrorists have been killed in four counter terror operations in Baramulla, Bandipora and Shopian districts. The slain terrorists include a top Lashkar-e-Taiba  Commander from Pakistan. The operation started on Thursday but the security forces had to proceed with caution as the terrorists had taken two civilians hostage. Talking to AIR News, Director General of Police Dilbahg Singh said.

"परसों शाम से लेकर चार अलग-अलग जगहों पर आकंवादियों के खिलाफ अभियान छेड़े गये थे, जिसमें चारों ही जगहों पर दो-दो मिलिटेंट मारे गये हैं। इसमें दो जगह पर जैश के मिलिटेंट हैं और दो जगह पर लश्कर--तय्यबा की जो तंजीम हैं उससे बावस्ता है ये मिलिटेंट। ये जो दोनों पाकिस्तान के मिलिटेंट हैं हाजिन बांदीपोरा में, उन्होंने घर के सारे मेंबर्स को अपने कब्जे में ले लिया था। बड़ी मुश्किल से उनको छुड़वाया गया, मगर उन्होंने एक बच्चे को नहीं छोड़ा है। बच्चे को साथ लेकर के ऊपर वाली मंजिल में शिफ्ट कर गये और उसको रेस्क्यू करने के दौरान ही ये मिलिटेंट अली भाई पाकिस्तान का है उसने बच्चे को मार दिया। लोगों में बड़ा सख्त रोष है"

Enforcement Directorate has imposed a penalty of over 14 lakh rupees on Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for illegal possession of 10 thousand dollars in violation of foreign exchange law. In a statement, the agency said, the foreign currency has also been confiscated as part of an order issued under the Foreign Exchange Management Act. The foreign currency was seized during an Income Tax raid at Geelani's residence in Srinagar's Hyderpora area in 2002.

Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has refuted the media report about alleged payoff to the BJP leaders. Issuing clarification, the CBDT said, during its searches against Congress leader DK Shivakumar in 2017, loose sheets of papers were found containing numerical entries against some individual names which  appeared to be doubtful as the originals are not available. The CBDT said, it had recovered xerox copy of diary pages of Karnataka Legislative Assembly of 2009 from  Shivakumar during a search action. It said, the same loose sheets prima-facie appear to be of a doubtful nature and were given by the person who was being raided for tax violations.

Congress had yesterday accused Mr Yeddyurappa of paying over 1800 crore rupees to the BJP's national leaders during his tenure as Karnataka Chief Minister.

BJP has dismissed the Congress allegations over reported payoffs saying the allegation is based on falsehood and misrepresentation. Senior Party leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, Congress allegation is on the basis of a loose sheet of paper and questioned the authenticity of the diary. Mr Yedduyurappa also said that Congress has planted the story in the media to gain mileage in the elections.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested a trusted aide of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik from Mumbai in connection with a money laundering case against him and others. Our correspondent has the details.

" According to ED officials, Abdul Kadir Najmudin Sathak, a jeweller, has been arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering for his role in actively assisting Naik and aiding him in money laundering by transferring funds to facilitate production and broadcasting incriminating videos for spreading communal hatred and radicalisation of a particular community. Officials stated that the agency would also soon file a fresh chargesheet in this case based on fresh evidence. The officials alleged that Sathak had directly sent about Rs 50 crore funds to Naik, which the preacher illegally routed and laundered. Madhuri Pange, AIR news, Mumbai."

Nation pays homage to great freedom fighters - Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their martyrdom day today. On this day in 1931 British rulers had executed them in Lahore for their revolutionary activities against the British rule. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs. In a tweet Mr. Modi said, the sacrifices of these great freedom fighters will always inspire the countrymen.

In China, the death toll in the powerful explosion at a chemical plant has climbed to 64 as a number of people succumbed to their injuries. Over 600 persons have been injured in the blast. According to officials, the incident occurred on Thursday following a fire in a fertilizer factory in a chemical industrial park in Jiangsu province.
