Election Commission today barred BSP President Mayawati for 48 hours from campaigning for violating Model Code of Conduct. It also barred Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for 72 hours from campaigning for violating poll norms. The ban will be effective from 6 AM tomorrow. The poll body also strongly condemned their remarks.
Mayawati was issued the notice for her speech in Deoband appealing to people of a particular religion to vote in favour of SP, BSP and RLD alliance.
Yogi Adityanath was served the notice for his remarks while addressing a rally in Meerut.

The Supreme Court has said that remarks made by Rahul Gandhi on the Rafale case verdict were incorrectly attributed to the apex court and directed the Congress President to give his explanation by next Monday. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi today said, it will consider the petition filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi seeking action against Mr Gandhi in contempt of court case for having some wrong observations on the Rafale judgement.The court said, the matter will be heard on 23rd of this month.

BJP has demanded the Election Commission to take cognizance of Congress President Rahul Gandhi's allegation and objectionable remarks against Prime Minister on Rafale deal. The party cited the Supreme Court's observation which maintained that Mr. Gandhi's remarks attributing Apex Court on the Rafale case verdict were incorrectly attributed to it. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, senior party leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad accused the Congress President of repeatedly denigrating the sanctity of constitutional institutions.
Meanwhile, Congress said, it will give a comprehensive and effective reply to the Supreme Court’s notice to Rahul Gandhi for the alleged contempt of court. Party Spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi alleged that the BJP has distorted  Mr. Gandhi’s statement.

CPI (M) today approached Election Commission over alleged large scale manipulation during the first phase of Lok Sabha polls, especially in West Bengal and Tripura. A delegation led by party general secretary Sitaram Yechury met the Commission over on the issue. Talking to reporters, Mr Yechury said, the party has demanded re-polling in 464 booth in Tripura.

The Apex Court today directed the Election Commission to watch the full biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and take an informed decision on banning its pan India release by Friday. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also directed the poll panel to submit its decision to the court in a sealed cover by 22nd of this month.

Star campaigners of political parties are on a whirlwind tour across the country to garner votes as second phase of Lok Sabha elections approaching. Campaigning for this phase ends tomorrow evening. Ninety seven constituencies, spread over 12 States and one Union Territory, will go to polls on Thursday.
In this phase, voting will be held in all 39 constituencies of Tamil Nadu, 14 in Karnataka; 10 in Maharashtra; 8 in Uttar Pradesh; five each in Assam, Bihar and Odisha; 3 each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal; two in Jammu and Kashmir and one each in Manipur, Tripura and Puducherry.
BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a public meeting at Rourkela in Odisha today, said, the party has zero tolerance towards terrorism while both Congress and BJD have adopted a soft approach towards naxalism and terrorism.
BJP President Amit Shah today campaigned at Gir Somnath in Gujarat. He said, not only Azam Khan, but both Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party should apologize to the crores of women in the country over the alleged remarks against BJP leader Jaya Prada.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi, today held a rally at Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi changed terms of the Rafale deal to benefit industrialist Anil Ambani. He said, money for the Nyay scheme will come from the pockets of people like Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.
 
"यही कारण है कि हमने आप को अब न्याय योजना देनी है 72 हजार रुपए, 20 प्रतिशत गरीब लोगों के बैंक अकाउंट में सीधा साल के 72 हजार, पांच साल के तीन लाख साठ हजार रुपए ये हमारी गारंटी है। मैं आपको यह नहीं कहूंगा कि दो करोड़ युवाओं को हर साल रोजगार दूंगा न। मगर मैं आपको यह जरुर कहूंगा कि 22 लाख सरकारी नौकरियां हैं उनको मैं एक साल के अंदर भर्ती दिलवा दूंगा।"

Earlier, Mr Gandhi along with his sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi addressed a rally at Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing a rally at Shivamogga in Karnataka, BJP leader and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, India had to attack Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camp in Balakot because Pakistan failed to take action against the camps operating on its territory despite accurate intel on them.
   
"पाकिस्तान खुद कहता है कि मैं भी  टेरिज् का विक्टिम हूं। जैश मोहम्मद की संस्था पाकिस्तान में ट्रेनिंग सेन्टर चलाता है तो क्या यह न्याय नहीं होगा कि पाकिस्तान खुद जाकर के उनके टेरिरिस् कैंप को सत्यानाश करे। मगर वो नहीं किए इसीलिए हम खुद जाकर के बालाकोट में अटैक किया।"

BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Mahesh Sharma and others addressed public meetings at Mathura, Fatepur Sikri, Badayun and Rampur in Uttar Pradesh.
BSP Chief Mayawati said while speaking at a meeting in Aligarh, that demonetisation and faulty implementation of the GST resulted in the loss of jobs and spike in poverty in the country.

"पूरे देश में खासकर नोटबंदी जी.एस.टी को जिस प्रकार से बिना पूरी तैयारी के ही इसे बहुत जल्दबाजी में लागू किया है। तो उससे अब यह पूरे देश में गरीबी एवं बेरोजगारी और भी ज्यादा बढ़ी है।

Samajwadi party President Akhilesh Yadav also  campaigned at Moradabad.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said, BJP is creating sense of insecurity by playing national security card among common people in the country. She was talking to media on the sidelines of an election rally in South Kashmir.
National Conference leaders Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah held an election rally in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan will be the BJP candidate from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat. BJP has fielded sitting Gorakhpur MP Praveen Nishad, who has recently quit Samajwadi Party, from Sant Kabir Nagar. The party announced another list of seven Lok Sabha candidates for Uttar Pradesh today. Sitting MP from Sant Kabir Nagar, Sharad Tripathi, whose video hitting an BJP MLA had gone viral, has not been given ticket.
Notification for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls will be issued tomorrow.

The National Commission for Women, NCW today sent a notice to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for his alleged comments  directed at BJP leader Jaya Prada at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. The commission said the remarks made by Mr. Khan are extremely offensive, unethical and shows disrespect towards the dignity and respect of women in general. Citing news reports, the NCW said it strongly condemns such comments from persons holding responsible positions. The Commission has asked Azam Khan to give an explanation in the matter.
NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma  said that the Commission will request Election Commission to bar Azam Khan from contesting elections.

In Maharashtra, over 45 per cent polling was recorded in the repolling held in Gadchiroli - Chimur Constituency today. Re-polling was held at four polling centres because an encounter took place between security forces and Naxals in Gadchiroli when a polling party was returning after first phase of elections on 11th April.

Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO today successfully test fired indigenously designed and developed Long Range Sub-Sonic Cruise Missile - Nirbhay from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur Odisha. Defence Ministry said, it is the sixth development flight trial with objective to prove the repeatability of boost phase, cruise phase using way point navigation at very low altitudes.

In a good news to farmers who mainly depend on monsoon, the country is likely to receive normal monsoon rainfall this year. Briefing media in New Delhi on Southwest Monsoon season rainfall forecast, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences Dr M Rajeevan said, monsoon seasonal rainfall from June to September is likely to be 96 per cent of the long period average, LPA.
   
"Qualitatively, monsoon season rainfall during the June to September is  likely to be 96 per cent of the Long Period Average. Weak El-Nino conditions are prevailing in the current season. They are going to weaken further at the subsequent season. So, we don't expect very severe adverse effect of El-Nino ensuing monsoon season"

The Met Department has forecast intense thunderstorm activity over Northwest India including Delhi-NCR during the next two days. Ministry of Earth Science said a strong western disturbance is approaching and would adversely affect weather over Northwest India. Rainfall  would occur at most places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand tomorrow and the day after. 
In Manipur, three women were killed in a sudden storm which struck along with rain at two different places today.

Benchmark domestic indices today closed with gains. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 139 points to close at 38,906. The Nifty at the National Stock also ended up by 47 points to 11,690.

India announced their 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup to be played in the UK from 30th of next month. Virat Kohli will lead the team.
Our correspondent reports that the squad was announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India Chairman of Selectors M.S.K. Prasad in Mumbai today.
   
Experience seemed to be the key factor as the five-member selection panel headed by MSK Prasad chose 33-year-old Dinesh Kartik ahead of the youngster Rishabh Pant for the second wicket-keeper’s slot. The squad has seven members who will be playing their first World Cup. These players include Kedar Jadhav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, K L Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Tamil Nadu's seam bowling all-rounder Vijay Shankar.
