In Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir State, situation is absolutely normal with all educational institutions and business establishments functioning normally today. In Ramban district of Jammu Division, all schools re-opened today except in Banihal Sub- Division. In border district of Poonch, all schools upto Middle level re-opened today.  In Reasi and Kahtua districts, situation is absolutely normal with all schools and business establishments functioning normally. 


Meanwhile, Mobile Internet has been suspended in entire Jammu division due to some technical error. According to Jammu Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma, the facility will be restored soon. However, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Inspector General of Police, Jammu range, Mukesh Singh have appealed people of Jammu Division not to fall prey to any baseless and frivolous rumours which are being spread and circulated by some vested elements.


In Kashmir, schools re-opened today in many parts of Valley as restrictions were eased further with teachers reporting to work in many schools. According to official sources, government has made  all the requisite arrangements for opening of 190 primary schools in Srinagar city. Students were seen turning up in Police Public School at Bemina and a few Kendriya Vidyalayas. On the issue of the restoration of mobile phone services in the valley, Government Spokes person, Mr Kansal said landline telephone services have been restored in several areas of Srinagar as the process to bring more areas on the telecom map is going on.


"We will endevour that landline communication is restored to its full functionality as  quickly as possible subject ofcourse to the  physical limitation that BSNL is facing and any technical constraints that it may face.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has said that India and Lithuania can become important partners in Make in India program. Addressing the India Lithuania Business Forum in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, today, Mr. Naidu said that Lithuania strongly supports India's Make in India initiative.


"Even Lithuania's technological competence in solar storage cells we could seek appropriate transfer of technologies from you. Lithuania could also strongly support India's make in India initiatives as it a global leader in the supply of certain types of lasers which are used in the manufacturing sector for various applications including defence, space and the medical devices."


Mr Naidu invited Business delegation from Lithuania to participate in India Europe Business Forum. He said that bilateral trade between both the countries is below potential. He said, Make in India campaign is establishing India as the hub of manufacturing and investment. Yesterday, addressing the Indian community in Vilnius, He called upon them to serve as a bridge in strengthening economic and cultural relations between the two countries.

An Australian delegation today met  Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Thawarchand Gehlot in New Delhi to take forward the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Australia in November last year in the areas in disability sector. The delegation comprising Prof. Craig Jeffrey, Director and CEO of Australia India Institute and others discussed the issues relating to co curriculum design of a community based inclusive development course. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr Thawarchand Gehlot said, through the  MoU, the governments of  both the countries will move forward towards welfare and protecting the interest of Divyangjan.


"An MoU has been signed on disability sector between government of Australia and government of India. And I hope this MoU will move forward towards welfare and protecting the interest of Divyangjan."

The Supreme Court today granted two more weeks time to the CBI to complete the ongoing investigation into the road accident case in which the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer have sustained critical injuries. A bench comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose extended the time for completing the probe after the CBI moved an application seeking four more weeks on the ground that the statements of the rape survivor and her lawyer have not been recorded so far. The bench also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to pay five lakh rupees to the lawyer, who is in a critical condition.


Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today dismissed a plea filed by Tehelka magazine founder Tarun Tejpal seeking quashing of charges framed against him in an alleged sexual assault case lodged by a former woman colleague.


A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra asked Goa's lower court to complete the trial preferably within six months in the case against Tejpal. Tejpal is alleged to have sexually assaulted a former woman colleague inside the elevator of a five-star hotel in Goa in 2013.

Former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra has passed away today after a prolonged illness. He was 82. Jagannath Mishra was three-time chief minister of Bihar. The state government has declared a three-day state mourning in Bihar.

President  Ram Nath Kovind paid floral tributes to former President  of India, Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma on his birth anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. Officers and staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan along with the family members of Dr Shanker Dayal Sharma also paid their respects on the occasion.

Home Minister Amit Shah has said the government is taking concrete steps for the development of the North East region. He said Modi government’s goal is to not only ensure overall development of the region but also to preserve its unique identity. Mr Shah was speaking after laying the foundation stones of Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan in New Delhi today.


Mr Shah informed that over three lakh thirty thousand crore rupees have been earmarked for the North East by the 14th Finance Commission, which is more than 200 per cent of the amount allocated by the erstwhile UPA government. The Minister said the region is already on the country’s aviation map and will appear on Railways map next year.

Reserve Bank of India, (RBI), Governor Shaktikanta Das today ruled out ordering an asset quality review of the systematically important shadow banks for now. Addressing the press on the sidelines of the national banking conference in Mumbai, Das ruled out ordering an asset quality review of the large Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs). The RBI Governor said 500 odd NBFCs and Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) are closely being monitored by the RBI.

In Himachal Pradesh, Hundreds of tourists are still stranded near Chander Taal Lake in Lahaul and Spiti district after a freak snowfall in the region. A report from our correspondent:


"Hundred of tourist are still stranded at various places in Lahaul-spiti and Leh due to 3 cm of snow at Baralacha and Keylong leading to snapping of road. Rain still continuing in Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, Hamirpur, upper areas of Shimla district affecting normal life. More than 800 roads are blocked due to landslides triggered by rain. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has taken stalk of the situation by video conferencing and issued instructions to Deputy commissioner to handle the situation with atmost care."


In Uttar Pradesh, several rivers, including Ganga, Yamuna and Ghaghra, are in spate. More from our correspondent:


" The river Ganga is flowing over danger mark at Kachhla Bridge in Badayun and at Fatehgarh of Farrukhabad it is near to the red mark. Sharda River at Palia kala in Lakhimpur khiri and Ghagra at Alginbridge in Barabanki have crossed red level. The Chambal is also near red level in Agra and Etawah districts. The river Yamuna is  flowing few centimeters below the danger mark in Auriya  and Hamirpur  districts where district administration have issued s regarding impending flood. Thousands  acres of agriculture land has been inundated in Hamirpur and  Auriya districts. MS Yadav AIR News Lucknow."


In Jammu, two persons were rescued after they got stuck  in  River Tawi today due to  sudden increase in the water level.  The district administration sought the assistance  of Indian Air Force to rescue them safely.


In Uttarkashi, death toll increased up to 10 in cloud burst incident which occurred last Saturday night in Mori subdivision of Uttarkashi district. According to official sources 8 bodies have been recovered so far. More than 6 people are missing. District Magistrate and other officers have reached the affected place and is supervising the rescue operation.

In Maharashtra, at least 13 people were killed and 30 injured when a container truck collided with a state transport bus coming from the opposite direction in Dhule district last night. 12 people including the drivers of both the vehicles died on the spot.  The bus was heading towards Shahada from Aurangabad. The injured were admitted in Dondaicha subdistrict hospital. Tourism Minister Jaykumar Raval reached the spot immediately.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be arriving in Dhaka tonight on a three day visit to Bangladesh. It will be the first Bangladesh visit of External Affairs Minister after the new government took oath in India in May. He will be holding meeting with his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr A K Abdul Momen and will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina tomorrow. India and Bangladesh enjoy excellent bilateral relations with a number of important projects in the field of railways, power and infrastructure sector being run in Bangladesh with Indian assistance and co-operation.

Centre's decision to withdraw Triple Talaq system has brought a new dawn to the Muslim women fraternity. Prime Minister in his address to the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort hailed this as his government's resolve to give justice to muslim women. Many of them suffered a lot due to pratice of instant Triple Talaq. Here is a report from our Kolkata Correspondent :


"Abolition of Triple Talaq system has created a sense of security among Muslim Women. Fear among them on the matter has been removed by a landmark decision of the Government. A feeling of happiness reflected among Muslim Women when AIR spoke with them.


The law has been passed in the Parliament but its subsequent related issues may be settled at the earliest for satisfaction of all concerned.Arijit Chakraborty, AIR News, Kolkata."

Domestic equity benchmarks today logged gains in afternoon trade amid positive cues form global stocks. Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange climbed 230 points or 0.61 per cent to trade at 37,580. Nifty, at National Stock Exchange, also added 57 points or 0.52 per cent to trade at 11,105.  However, the rupee at forex market depreciated by 20 paise to around 71 rupees and 36 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Army has taken an initiative to empower and impart skill to the local women of the remote villages in Rajouri district of Jammu Division so as to make them self reliant.  As part of this initiative Army has taken an initiative to upgrade the Women Empowerment Node at Lam (Rajouri) which will impart training to local women and thereafter provide means for self employment. The node has started conducting a tailoring course for women from  yesterday.
