Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that those, who helped the perpetrators of 1993 Mumbai blasts flee the country and take shelter in Pakistan, will be exposed soon. Addressing an election rally at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, Mr Modi said, people have been asking who helped these perpetrators to flee and what their relations were with the perpetrators - business, commercial or otherwise.

Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon and other key accused in the case fled to Pakistan soon after the serial blasts. Mr Modi also said, the culprits are panicking and are trying to divert attention by raising irrelevant topics but people will seek answers from them for their misdeeds. 


Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the BJP-JD(U) combine will contest the upcoming Bihar assembly elections under the leadership of Nitish Kumar. In an interview to a TV channel, Mr Shah said, at the national level, the two parties are working under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in the state, they will do so under the leadership of the current chief minister. When asked about the reported tiffs between the two parties, the BJP President said, in a coalition, there are always tiffs and they should be considered a parameter of a healthy coalition. He said, only thing is that these differences in opinion shouldn't turn into a change of hearts.


In Haryana, elaborate arrangement have been made for conducting free and fair elections for 90 assembly seats. In an exclusive interview to our Chandigarh Correspondent Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Aggarwal said there are around 3000 vulnerable and 100 critical polling stations in Haryana. He said central para military forces and micro observers will be deployed at these polling stations.

With just three days left for campaigning to end for the Oct 21 Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections, leaders across political spectrum are criss-crossing the state to reach out to the electorates.

In Haryana political parties are focusing on regional as well as National issues. Parties including BJP, Congress and INLD are trying to woo the Youth and farmers. More from our correspondent.

"Chief Minister Manohar lal is talking about employment provided to youth and inclusive growth of the state in all sectors. Senior leader of Congress Rahul Gandhi has raised different issues like country’s economy, unemployment and Rafale deal. On the other hand, Congress leader Bhupendra Hudda is focusing on local issues related to bread and butter. BJP has promised to provide more support to farmers for their prosperity while congress is talking about farmer’s loan waiver. In Maharashtra, the Political campaigns have intensified and prominent leaders and workers are holding rallies and public meetings to woo the voters.  There are 288 assembly seats in the state and there’s a direct fight between BJP-Shiv Sena and Congress-NCP. Here is a report:-

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a campaign trail in the poll-bound state, will be holding rallies in Pune, Satara and Parli today. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is scheduled to hold rally in Manor for Palghar, Boisar, Dahanu and Vikramgad candidates of the Mahayuti. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will address a public meeting in Mira-Bhayander today. Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia will hold rallies in Bhokar, Latur, Solapur and Pune while former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah will address rallies in Sangli, Jat and Akkalkot constituencies. Meanwhile, various activities are being organized across the state to increase voter awareness. Nashik Cyclists Foundation (NCF) along with Manavta Foundation is organizing a cycle rally in Mumbai today to encourage voters to exercise their franchise and increase voter turnout.  Sweety Jain, AIR News, Mumbai.


Jammu and Kashmir government has shifted Ladakh Affairs Department along with its Administrative Secretary Rigzin Samphel to Leh to oversee the transition of Ladakh region as the youngest Union Territory. Ladakh region will become the new Union Territory as per the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019, after a formal notification in this regard on 31st of October.

Mr Rigzin who hails from Ladakh region, is a 2003 UP cadre IAS Officer.


A Mumbai court has remanded three of the accused in PMC Bank scam to judicial custody till 23rd October.  The three accused, chairman and managing director of Housing Development Infrastructure Limited, Rakesh Wadhawan, his son Sarang and PMC Bank's former chairman Waryam Singh were produced before Metropolitan Magistrate S G Shaikh yesterday. Later in the day, the Enforcement Directorate approached Mumbai’s special court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act cases, seeking the Wadhawans' custody. The court asked the ED to complete necessary formalities, and adjourned its plea without giving a specific date.

Earlier this month, Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police had registered a case against the Wadhawans and top officials of PMC Bank for allegedly causing losses to the tune of 4,355 crore rupees to the bank.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah will today inaugurate a 2-day international seminar being held to discuss "the role and relevance of famous ruler of Gupta Dynasty, Skandagupt Vikramaditya and the political future of the nation" at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi. A report:

Gupta period is called golden period of Indian history and Skandagupt is called as the Saviour of India since he successfully fought the battle against the invading Hoons and thrown them out from Indian territory. The famous battle with hoon took place at Aundihar near Varanasi whose name originated from Hoon haar, means defeat of hoons. An ined Victory piller made by Skandagupt at Bhitri in Saidpur area of Ghazipur wil also be discussed at seminar. Tribal Affair Minister Arjun Munda has announced the second phase of GOAL (Going Online as Leaders), a Facebook program for girls. It is aimed at inspiring, guiding and encouraging tribal girls from across India to become village-level digital young leaders for their communities. GOAL connects underprivileged young tribal women with senior expert mentors in the areas of business, fashion and arts to learn digital and life skills. In the second phase of the program, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Facebook together will digitally mentor five thousand young women in tribal dominated districts. The first phase was launched in March this year.


President Ram Nath Kovind left on a week-long visit to the Philippines and Japan this morning. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, Mr Kovind is visiting Japan to attend the enthronement ceremony of the Emperor of Japan Naruhito. Vijay Thakur Singh, MEA Secretary (East), said the President will be in the Philippines from October 17th to 21st and in Japan from October 21st to 23rd.

One of the purposes is of  Rashtrapatiji's visit to see and flag the importance of economic engagement between our  two countries and not only on trade. We  already do have on going cooperation with  Philippines in  various fields, we have in it health, we have in agriculture we have in renewable energy and counter terrorism.


The Maldives has called for better collaboration with Indian business entities to explore new avenues to diversify its economy. Speaking at the inauguration of Indian expo in Male, Maldives Minister for economic development Fayyaz Ismail said there is a huge potential in the economies of both the countries, especially in the quest to diversify. 

Maldives minister specified medical tourism and food processing as areas where cooperation between industries can be greatly enhanced. He added that people of two countries must explore the possibilities and learn the each other’s mindset. The minister said close cooperation between Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led to a very good development between the both countries within the last 11 months. Relations between the two neighbours have vastly improved since Mr. Solih took over as President last November. US President Donald Trump has defended his decision to pull US troops out of Syria, calling it strategically brilliant. Talking to reporters at the White House , he denied giving Turkey a green light to launch operations against Kurdish militants. Mr Trump said, Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's decision didn't surprise him because Mr Erdogan wanted to do that for a long time. The US president also disparaged the Kurdish allies he abandoned in the face of the Turkish offensive, saying they were not angels, as well as Republican critics at home of his abrupt withdrawal.


The Chennai leg of the National Junior Squash Championship began in Chennai yesterday. Prithvi Kothari defeated Nirvaan Doshi. Both 12 year olds, belong to Tamil Nadu. It is for the first time that some tribal children are taking part in the tournament. The seven day tournaments will go on till Tuesday.

In the HCL-SRFI squash championship, Mahesh Mangaonkar will take on top seed Ivan Yuen of Malaysia for the title clash today in Chennai. In the semifinals of the PSA Challenger Tour tournament held yesterday, Mahesh defeated Harinder Pal Sandhu. Earlier, the Malaysian top seed Ivan Yuen won over Aditya Jagtap.


Indian artists performed Mahatama Gandh's favourite Bhajan “Raghupati Raghav Rajaram” on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Bapu in Sharjah yesterday. The function, which was organised by the Indian Association in Sharjah, was attended by Minister of State for External Affairs V Murleedharan among others.  Mr Murleedharan is on a two-day visit to UAE to attend the 5th Abu Dhabi Dialogue.
