In Maharashtra, the 17-day long stalemate over government formation is not heading to any clear conclusion. The Shiv Sena today staked claim to form the new government. A delegation of Shiv Sena led by leader of the legislature party Eknath Shinde, Thackeray scion Aaditya Thackeray and other party leaders met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai this evening. The delegation expressed willingness to form government but asked for 48 hours time to complete formalities. Earlier in the day, series of prolong meetings of Congress, NCP and Shivsena were held in Mumbai and Delhi over formation of new coalition government led by Shivsena.

"The clouds of uncertainty over the new Government formation in Maharashtra still looms large. Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray after meeting the Governor said, his party showed willingness to form new government in the state. He said that the Shiv Sena sought 48 hours extention to finish the formalities of coalition government. However, the Governor refused to grant more time. The Thackeray scion though clarified that his party's stake wasn't rejected by the Governor. He asserted that its his party's duty to give honest and stable government to the people of the state. Even after NCP Core Committee meeting in Mumbai, the party has not cleared its stance as their alliance partner Congress decided to wait further. Speaking to reporters after the meeting chaired by NCP Chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai, Spokesman Nawab Malik said, his party will not announce anything about its stand in the ongoing situation and will wait for its alliance partner Congress to decide their stand. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray today met NCP Chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant today resigned as Union Minister in the BJP-led NDA Government. Talking to media in New Delhi, Mr Sawant said, he sent his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, NCP MLAs led by Ajit Pawar have reached the Raj Bhawan to discuss government formation issue with the Governor.


The Congress is yet to arrive at any conclusion on extending support to Shiv Sena to form a new government in Maharashtra. After the Congress Working Committee, CWC, meeting in New Delhi, the Congress said, it will have further discussion with Sharad Pawar-led NCP. During its meeting, the CWC had a detailed discussion on the current political situation in the state and also held consultations with Congress leaders from Maharashtra. Congress President Sonia Gandhi also spoke to Sharad Pawar over the issue.


Train services in the Kashmir Valley, which were disrupted since 3rd August ahead of the abrogation of provisions of Article 370, will resume tomorrow. A successful trial run of the train from Srinagar to Baramulla was conducted today. A Northern Railway official said, the services on this stretch will begin tomorrow. He said, train services from Srinagar to Banihal in Jammu region will resume in the next phase shortly.


Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today exuded confidence that recent measures taken by the government will stimulate investments, attract capital inflows and give a push to GDP growth in the coming months. He was addressing the 21st Assocham JRD Tata Memorial Lecture in New Delhi today. The Vice President said fundamentals of the Indian economy are strong and the country continues to be among the fastest growing major economies of the world.

Mr Naidu called upon private sector to work with government and financial institutions to bring financial literacy to the masses.

"I call upon the private sector to work with the government, financial institutions and NGOs to bring  financial literacy to the masses. We must use the cutting edge technology. I would like the private sector to create the right ecosystem for young Indian talent according greater importance to research and innovation."

Recalling JRD Tata's contribution to nation building, Mr. Naidu said, he was not only a doyen of the Indian industry but also a visionary leader who dreamed for a rising India.


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, Prime Minister has set a target of five trillion dollar economy by 2024. He was speaking at the Def-Connect organized to showcase accomplishments of innovations for Defence excellence in New Delhi today. Mr Singh said that with the talent the country has, India will become a 10 trillion dollar economy within 10 to 15 years. He added that he feels a sense of pride looking at the Start Ups today and stressed that passionate incubation is needed for start-ups. The Minister claimed that India will excel in defence innovation in the coming years.


India will take up issue of cross-border terrorism strongly at BRICS summit 2019 in Brazil. In an exclusive interview to AIR correspondent covering the summit, India's Sous Sherpa, Suresh Reddy gave this information. Mr Reddy said, global commons are facing several issues related to sovereignty which will also be discussed extensively.

"Today when you look at in terms of challenge to sovereignty, we can look at it from multiple approaches. One could be when you look at  global recession itself. When you join an international organization, we are voluntarily giving up certain powers for the benefit of the global good. Number two, digitalization is cutting across borders and that is also proving to be a great challenge especially in the context of the digital economy. Another critical area is also terrorism especially in India's case because of the terrorism emanating from across the borders. When we discuss this with other leaders, we are also able to exchange views on how we can strengthen this cooperation going forward and how do we jointly address these challenges."

BRICS, which accounts for 23 per cent of the global GDP and around 17 per cent of the share in the world trade, has diversified its agenda over the years. Talking about this year's special initiative of BRICS Women Business Alliance, Mr. Reddy said, it is going to help women across the BRICS societies a lot through its conection with the New Development Bank.

"The Women Business Alliance would be an important partner of New Development Bank because going forward we want them to be actively engaged. The primary objective is to support the interaction and development of partnerships between the private sectors within the BRICS countries and here the women entrepreneurs play a very important role."


Ahead of the BRICS 2019 Summit, a meeting of the trade ministers of the grouping started in Brasilia today. Commerce Minister Piyush Goel is leading the Indian delegation. The meeting will focus on trade facilitation, investment promotion and cooperation in customs among other issues. Getting through comparative advantages of all the BRICS countries to develop upon shared prosperity in the present global economic situation will also be the focus. An MoU on trade and investment promotion between agencies of all the 5 BRICS countries will be signed after the meeting.

Power minister R K Singh will attend the meeting of BRICS power ministers where deliberations will focus on clean energy and harnessing the strength of each other in energy sector.


The Gujarat Government has given its nod to the world’s first CNG port terminal at Bhavnagar. UK-based Foresight group and Mumbai-based Padmanabh Mafatlal group joint venture will invest 1900 crore rupees to set up a CNG port terminal at Bhavnagar port. Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board- GIDB under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has also approved this proposal.

"The proposed CNG port terminal will have annual capacity of 6 million matric tonne, which will increased the total handling capacity of the port to 9 million matric tonne. Mammorandum of Understanding- for this project between Gujarat Maritime Board and London based Foresight Group was signed during the 2019 Vibrant Gujarat summit. The new facility will be developed in the northen side of present port, underwhich RoRo terminal, liquid terminal and container terminal will be developed in future. The consortium has proposed an investment of 1,300 crore rupees in the first phase and 600 crore rupees in the second phase through the 'Swiss challenge' method. Studies for pre-feasibility report, cite selection, gas supply agreement and CNG vessel development have also been completed. Yogesh Pandya, AIR NEWS, Ahmedabad."


Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has said that the upcoming National Education Policy will be India-centric and will include Indian knowledge, science, research and ancient splendor. Addressing the concluding session of Sanskrit Vishwa Sammelan in New Delhi today, Mr. Pokhriyal said India as a nation can progress by utilizing the values and knowledge provided by its own culture and civilization.The Minister said Sanskrit is one of the most scientific languages of the world and the world needs it.

The three day Sanskrit Vishwa Sammelan attracted thousands of Sanskrit enthusiasts from across India and 21 other countries.


The HRD Minister today met the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University and held a positive discussion on their problems. Mr. Nishank assured them of a proper solution to their problems soon.


The 550th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji will be celebrated with full devotion and great fervour tomorrow.

"On 550th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, devotees in large numbers are reaching historical towns of Sultanpur Lodhi, Dera Baba Nanak and Amritsar. The devotees joined the Nagar Kirtans in large numbers, which are carried a day before the Gurpurab. All over the Punjab the Gurdwaras are illuminated with colourful lights. The Nagar Kirtans are being held at various cities and towns of Punjab and Haryana including Amritsar.

Guru Nanak Dev ji meditated in Nepal about 500 years ago. That spot is now known as 'Guru Nanak Math'. Our Kathmandu correspondent has filed an EXCLUSIVE report from Guru Nanak Math.

"Guru Nanak Math is situated on the top of a hillock in Balaju area of Kathmandu. It is believed that around 500 years ago during his third Udasi Guru Nanak Dev ji meditated here. A pair of footprints is still there under a peepal tree where Guruji meditated. There is also a rare handwritten Holy Guru Granth Sahib in the math. Besides worshiping Lord Shaligram and Tulsi, the custodian of the math Mahant Naim Muni Udasin also performs daily prayers reciting from the Guru Granth Sahib. It is believed, then ruling king of Nepal had gifted around 200 acres of land to Guru Nanak Dev ji, however a small portion of it available now. To celebrate 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, Akhand path was organised at Guru Nanak Math. Devotees from India, England, France and other countries also participated.
